He is a JUCO from St. John's River CC in Florida and started out at Mercer. He's 6'3" 235 and he has hit 10 home runs on the year and is batting .345. LH hitter, but he throws RH.

Probably means that Rooker is going to be an OF, which isn't too surprising.

Nice. What position?

Draft status?

It's hard for me to get excited about baseball recruits bc you never know if you'll get em or not

Oh yeah. My bad. I didn't pay attention to your comment about Rooker.

Is he the next Andy Rice or next Tyler Moore?

No, that was my bad. I should have put his position in the OP.

We'll find out. He signed with a pretty good D-I school out of high school in Mercer. I'm a little leery that he will go through what John Holland is going through this year at least to this point. Rooker and Cole Gordon- why Gordon is redshirting is beyond me- will also be candidates at first base.

Wait, 10 HR already? How many games has he played?

ETA: Just looked it up, he's played 26 games already. He apparently leads JUCO in HR, though, with the 10 in 84 ABs.

A lot of Ks with 22 but also a lot of walks with 14. Straight power hitter - only 19 non-HR hits.

Looks like a good prospect to come compete at 1B; he'll at least be a power-hitting PH off the bench.

Product of Pope HS here in Cobb Co. I like that we're starting to get some kids from out here. He played travel ball with Connor Justus, Dansby Swanson, and Caleb Adams out of ULL.

Is this guy in the 2015 or 2016 class?

I would assume 2015. He's already played a season at Mercer, now he's in JUCO, so he would only have 2 years left.

I seen it dawg

But can he bunt?

Will he fit in since he isn't a midget.

UPDATE

Lowe is currently batting .374 OBP .515 with 16 HR 50 RBI and 53 runs scored. I think we have found Wes Rea's replacement.

And after K'ing 22 times in his first 26 games vs. 14 walks, he has struck out only SEVEN times in his last 25 games while walking 33 times. Now boasts a 29/47 K/BB ratio, which is fantastic. Slugging well over .700.

Looks like he can hopefully come in and help transform the lineup immediately.

I know a lot of people on here don't like JUCO's but Ron Polk seemed to always have several good ones on his team. The most came from Florida. Please don't compare MS JUCO to FL JUCO. There are several programs that produce solid D1 players every year. A lot of kids chose JUCO because they don't want to go lower D1 or D2 and have a chance to go to a strong D1 program after 2 years. Another reason is they want to be draft eligible after two years instead of three at D1. They didn't want to sit on the bench as a RS or just didn't fit at the school or program. St. John's is coached by a former Asst. coach at UF. Good solid program.

Florida does have one of the best JUCO leagues in the country.

I hope he can transform the lineup immediately too. He's a non-traditional JUCO player- he started out at Mercer.

I would still pump the breaks on him though- I'm expecting 5-10 home runs and a batting average of around .275. We all see the adjustment that John Holland has had to make coming from JUCO- and he started out at Florida State.

Lowe is going to have to earn his spot in the lineup- Rooker, Gordon, and maybe even Humphreys are going to be stiff competition.

For the life of me, I still can't figure out why we redshirted Cole Gordon- he could have helped us some this year.

That decision looks even dumber now than it did then.

To me 1B is Humps to lose, draft year in 2016, so he needs a position, Smith, Brown and Robson will be full time OFs.

Keep Cohen and Mingione away from him during batting practice

JUCO's have a place- on the bench. The only thing JUCO is good for is finding catch and throw catchers.

Poole is from Amory and comes to MSU from ICC. He's a big kid, 6'4". Plays OF and has a plus arm. Runs well too. Stole 26 bases in 28 attempts.

are after a JC outfielder that the coaching staff thinks Robson won't be back. I think the offer with Poole hinged on that from what I've been told.

Nice. Church folks who are kin to him told me State was visiting him a couple of weeks ago. They said he really wanted to be at State.

on Poole. Don't think he got any monies so he was probably offered as a preferred walk-on. Tanner is a gamer. I think he'll do fine.

that works but we will be at MSU next year and he and his family are really excited. MSU called him Tuesday night with the offer and he accepted. That much I can vouch for.

Basically it means he is a walk-on with an almost guaranteed spot on the team.

Not in a commitment thread douchebag. If you want to discuss it further- either start another thread or PM me.

Nate Lowe is a big framed hitter. I haven't seen any video of him at St. John's River, but at Marietta Pope in high school, he was an open stance guy with a long swing. He could drive the ball to the opposite field but could get tied up on the inside. This is something SEC pitchers will take advantage of if he hasn't corrected it. I don't think he is a big draft risk as he is still a developing player.
