One thing we could learn in preparation for an ice storm is how the Russians handle this stuff... Vodka

Haha...should be a light glaze tonight, melt over the day in time for a game to occur, then by the time the game ends and everyone is home, we'll get the more intense stuff.

Ref what do you think about class tomorrow

I think we will have at least the 8 and 9:30 classes cancelled....everything else will roll on. But that all depends on accumulation overnight.

Okay...so I just went outside and checked road conditions on Jackson Street. I think we'll be running full steam tomorrow.

Jack Daniels, double, neat. Hot or cold, no self respecting Southern Gentleman would ever drink nothing but bourbon and never ever ever add anything else.

Most likely. Students are getting really fed up with it being up in the air though. I find it humorous

Got pounded in west LA. About a half inch of ice. Paralyzing. Tonite everything freezes solid making tomorrow pretty much treacherous to do anything. Our whole week may be shot because we are supposed to get another round Wednesday.

Scooba, I see the schools are closed but are the roads that bad? My street looks pretty bare and it's had minimal traffic on it today. I would have figured the crews got it manageable by now.
I ask because I hope like hell that my office is closed but won't know until the morning

All depends on where you are... I havent ventured out but im around 360 and have seen reports of many wrecks spin outs on it today.
TxDot has done better with the sand/salt solution but that only melted everything today to help with traction very little wind or sunshine to help with evaporation so everything is refreezing overnight and making it actually worse.

I spent three years in Russia, and it got to 50 below zero every winter. Vodka can't offset that temperature.

Worked for British gas at the time and they had a joint venture with Kazakhstan, 500 kilometers north of the Eastern shore of the Caspian sea. Drilling and workover on Russian equipment.

Haha...So here is the deal with tomorrow. It's a major arctic system that will dump a lot of frozen precipitation. This time, in the form of snow. Yes...I'm saying it, we will get snow. And I'm not talking about a baby's amount of snow either. We're talking 2-3 inches easily. The question for our accumulation is how much will accumulate on the road. Concrete and asphalt are tricky because you're relying on those materials to cool down below freezing to give you a steady base to build the snow on. Now this will be wet snow because the temperature will stick around freezing, which won't allow it to freeze completely down and drop the moisture content. This wet snow will mean that roads will be slick.

To answer the question about classes. Classes should run on schedule for the most part, and I believe we will run into a similar position as yesterday which will cut all classes about midday. I don't think we see the morning classes cancel because, for the most part, the worst of it won't arrive until the afternoon (this is disappointing to me since I have a class at 9 AM). But I'm going to keep watching this throughout the day, for sure.

I figure if there is any sleet or snow falling from the sky at 6 am that they will go ahead and cancel. They don't want another situation involving student wrecks coming back to haunt them like it did 2 years ago

I agree....I don't expect sleet/freezing rain out of this. I think this will be a complete snow event.

Awesome. Snow is much more fun than ice lol

I was just going off the weather channel app for what it's worth. It has an 80% chance of snow and rain starting at 6 am. Weather Bug has it starting at 8 am

Something I will say is that the chances do have it coming in around 7-8 AM, but I'm not sure if it will be sticking to roads due to it being halfway pretty warm today. Concrete and asphalt take time to cool down enough to stick.

Not nearly as much snow as the Golden Triangle, but you will get more of a sleet/rain mix than snow. This could cause some problems driving on 463, I-55, etc as there could be some accumulation. But I don't know how much accumulation will happen as you won't really drop below freezing. Sure you're borderline, which may make overpasses, bridges, and other elevated surfaces slick, but I don't think you'll get the accumulation you would if the temperatures were just 2-3 ?F lower.

Starkville right on the line for 3-6". Wouldn't be surprised to see locally higher amounts. Just a roll of the dice on where the heavier snow bands set up.
