I played rugby, and can say for sure, when we played in extremely cold weather, there were a helluva lot more knock-ons (fumbles) in freezing weather, and it could get really hard to feel the ball well.

Yeah, I can understand it sometimes in close games if your guys can execute consistently. With the way a lot of college players seem to bunt, and the number of errors and misplays when you just put it in play, I don't know why a coach would try to do it very often.

And again, I get it in certain situations. Britton at the plate in a tie game may even be one of those situations. But with Lovelady running and a guy who clearly can't get it down consistently...you're just killing yourself.

I pitched also. It never was about fingers or extremities. It was more about the shoulder for me, and for other guys the elbow and wrist when it came to getting cold. Fingertips on the laces were never an issue for me.
