Don't know anything about it but have you checked the Microtel out on old 82 east of Starkville.

Stayed at the La Quinta a couple years ago, so my info isn't really up-to-date, but it was nice enough. It's fairly new, was good as far as I recall.

Speaking of, how are the two hotel projects coming along? One on campus, one just off campus as I recall.

I stayed at the Holiday Inn & Suites last year. Really nice. Great breakfast. Friendly staff. Prices fluctuate depending on if anything is going on in town, etc.

Not one to avoid, but there is a nice hotel if you want to call it that on the east side of the football stadium. It's kinda behind the police station in that area. I think they have 8-10 rooms. Not sure who to contact, it's been awhile since I stayed there.

Since Comfort Suites became "pet friendly", you are in for a bad time if you have allergies. Used to be the best option for us since the location was fantastic. No more.

Just a note for those not living near Columbus. The Fairfield was the first to open last year. Now there is a Courtyard, Hyatt and the new Hampton just open. Cracker Barrel is building across the street from the Courtyard and Hampton properties.

Hilton Garden Inn is the best in my opinion.

I would probably avoid both of the ones you mentioned, along with University Motel and Regal Inn, as mentioned.
Holton Garden Inn and LA Quinta are the newest, with the former probably being my first choice in town though the price likely reflects that. Comfort Suites is also good as is Holiday Inn Express.
I have heard good things about Microtel also but haven't heard anything recently.

I've stayed at Fairfield in Columbus, back when my better half graduated. Been a couple years though.
