So I am in NYC this week for work, and spent last night at one of the better stocked whiskey bars I have seen in a long time. First up with the Van Winkle 12 Year Old Lot B. This is the second time I have had this Van Winkle expression, and reconfirmed that if you want to try the Pappy, there is no reason to spend the money on the 20 or 23 y/o. This is a very good pour for less than half the price of the others.
The second pour of the night was a Redbreast 21 year old Irish Whiskey. Redbreast 12 and 15 y/o are pretty readily available, and you should definitely have one of these in your collection, but this is the first time I have seen the 21 y/o expression. Let me say that when I tasted this, I heard a choir singing "halleluiah" in my head. Light colored, silky, smooth, not over complex. This is in the top two whiskeys I have ever tasted. I am on a mission now to add one of these to my cabinet.
