And now it looks like it's all but official that Moton is in for us:

No, 25 is the limit any school can receive today... To exceed 25, it required midseason enrollees that signed FAA's and not NLIs...

Yes, UT for example, had 10 early enrollees. FYI: Ole Miss did not send paperwork to Leo Lewis.

Pretty funny that UF is paying Muschamp to destroy them in recruiting. Geoff Collins not getting it done. UF lost Derrick Dillon to LSU. And of course Cowart. Cece Jefferson thought Holland and Cowart were signing with UF so now OM might be in better shape with CeCe.

BTW, check out Freeze's twitter if you want to see a coach handle recruiting the way I don't like. He's retweeting guys talking about how many 4-stars they have and literally announced Joe Anderson's signing by saying, 'Proud to add another 4-star to our class with @Jooeeee!' That's embarrassing.

He's giving his assistant coaches more congratulations than he is the recruits.

Yea, the rankings are so bogus. For example, 247 has Patterson at 98 while Lewis is 96, Peters is 95 and Adams is 94. Now Patterson may end up being a really good player but he is NOT the head and shoulders #1 player in the State (who I think is Peters) and is probably more iffy in college than the 3 MSU guys.

How they finish ahead of us in any ranking system will be beyond me. This thread needs to be archived so we can revisit it because I guarantee our class puts theirs this year to shame in the future. I would love to do a comparison of how these guys finish out their career in 3-5 years.

This is the first top notch class of the Mullen era. Look at what we just did with the other classes. #1 for 5 weeks and a 10-2 regular season. This class is now in an established system that we've got and they will be the ones I think that could potentially get us to Atlanta. Fitz or Staley a senior QB with this group of guys all juniors and seniors on defense? Sick. We could have Adams, Jones, Leo, Peters, McLaurin, Washington, Smitherman, Stamps and Moton all as juniors or seniors. That's sick.

smootness
02-04-2015, 12:36 PM
First, our classes are notoriously underrated. Leo Lewis and Jamal Peters are both arguable 5-stars, McLaurin is a definite 4-star, etc.

Second, we have talent everywhere. We did a great job of filling needs and getting a well-rounded class. Ole Miss can get all the top-rated WRs they want, fine with me. So long as they keep whiffing on talent at big positions of need, like LB.

Third, our JUCO guys didn't sign and don't count in our rankings. They signed several sign-and-place guys who boost their ranking and do nothing else.

Fourth, Chad Kelly. That's all that needs to be said. 4-star talent, and I'd take literally anybody else in the country over him to actually be my QB.

The composite TEAM rankings are bogus because State is #18 in the composite but
#17 in 247,
#16 in Scout,
#16 in Rivals, and
#17 in ESPN.

Ole Miss is
#16 in 247,

The discrepancy between our individual team rankings and our composite team ranking has been going on for months and Paul from 247 unable to explain why.

From what I have read, they took advantage of a new rule that allows early JC enrollment, which would allow them to come to us after 1 year, and have 3 years of playing time with us.

There was no need to sign them. They will sign mid-year this coming year and count back. Getting a LOI from a sign-and-place guy doesn't do anything anyway, it's useless the minute they enroll in JUCO. The only thing that matters is that the JUCO knows you're the one that placed them there, which is the case for Champion and Myers both.

Getting them to sign a LOI while already enrolled in JUCO would do literally nothing for us.

I've heard Anderson, Jalen Julius, Montrell Custis, and Jordus Smith are all sign-and-place candidates.

But then the other teams get all the points from signing day! How are we going to win games without signing day points!****

Who cares where they're ranked! We just got Lewis, Peters and Adams..... I don't give a shit what receiver they got again.

There was no need to sign them. They will sign mid-year this coming year and count back. Getting a LOI from a sign-and-place guy doesn't do anything anyway, it's useless the minute they enroll in JUCO. Good info. This was the part I didn't understand.

Just realized we didn't get Miggins. I had a feeling UK was desperate enough to throw the sink at him. I knew the longer it took, the worse our chances. That's several years in a row they have grabbed a DL that I wanted us to get at the last minute. We need to figure out what they're telling these guys, and nip that shit in the bud.

No huge loss, but UK is becoming a gnat when it comes to about 1 or 2 defensive wants per year.

SECN has us at 16...Bears at 19.

Dude only made 8 tackles in 9 games for PRCC this year. I'm not even sure he would have given us a backup any better than the RSFr we already have (Thomas, Hoyette and Grant) so I'm not going to sweat it. He probably does have a much better chance at playing time at UK.

I know Z Smith was all about them hiring his JUCO DL coach right before. As far as Miggins, I think he liked us as well or maybe even better but it was an easy sell from a team that was desperate to get a player. He was the second highest rated player they signed today. Easy to compare his pecking order with then compared to us and immediate and significant playing time. We couldn't promise that when he looked at what we had already on campus and how many we signed this year. Pretty above board recruiting deal with this one but they stayed on him very very hard with starting time. He was telling our coaches that it was us yesterday afternoon. I liked him but I also clearly see his thought process going with them.

Those numbers are not correct. I think even Paul might have alluded to that as well??

Yea, not upset about Miggins. What a damn class we signed. I don't think it has set in for me yet.

Oh, and hell of a job by EliteDawgs.com members in this thread. Thank you guys. I used this thread to check in on throughout the day, and it was great to be able to click the first page and see the list of signees grow. Enjoyed getting to go back and read everything just now....I felt like I was reliving the excitement of the Leo announcement. Big Day, Dawgs...soak it in

Well regardless, I would bet money our top 4 DTs in the Fall will be Chris Jones, Nelson Adams, Nick James and Cory Thomas. Miggins would have given us depth because one of those could go down at any time. Hopefully Hoyette and Grant Harris can get a few reps at DT this year as well or maybe one of the true FR will be far enough along to play some.

While I agree with you somewhat, you need more than 4 DT for SEC play. And it's really nice to be able to play down to numbers 7 & 8 with significant min in OOC games. Your four right now is more like 3 1/2 until James goes out every play in every game. I agree one or two of the young guys will have to step up and fortunately we have some pretty good guys that hopefully live up to their potential.

Well we will just have to go with what we've got because we whiffed on all the JUCO DTs we went after. Hate we didn't get Swain because he would have gone through Spring. Miggins was a last gasp effort who would not have even gotten here until August and didn't have great stats. We are going to have to have a couple of the younger DTs step up for sure.
