Game tips in 5 minutes on SECNetwork. I certainly don't expect another 14 point loss to them the way we've played lately and the way they shot. Should be a good one. Hope we handle zone well. Chicken getting to the rim and creating dunks for the bigs and 3s for IJ and Travis/Fred (whoever is playing better) will be the deciding factor offensively IMO. Oh, and not turning it over like it's going out of style. Let's keep the momentum moving

When they are in that 2-3 matchup zone, that play we just got Craig a 3 on will be open all night. Run it a few times, then fake the pass to Craig and hit the short corner. All night

Great call Rick. Looked like a stagger ball screen and rolling Roq To the rim after for cleanup gets a wide open jumper, doesn't fall, ray puts roq right there to follow up. Give him credit.

Now, clean up the offensive glass and we can win the game no doubt

I don't understand this. We're up. If we focus on just controlling the ball, we might be giving up something else. I'm also baffled that you often call our team "unwatchable". Sword being less than 100% was the main factor. Ready not being in game shape was the 2nd factor. These 2 things combined led to Ray not having our rotations set.

Go back and watch and see how many times he drove past him and scored, rised up over him and scored, or posted him up and scored..
Do you all understand that when u play man-to - man defense that picks are set , players switch players, players score on zone defense, players score fast brake points .. Ect....
Just because your listed as pg against another pg doesn't mean you check that guy and if you are doesn't mean you check him the whole game..

You are the one that needs to watch the replay. Playing through screens is a part of defense. If a player gets swallowed up consistently he therefore is a bad defender. Hobbit like size. He's Muggsy Bogues 2.0.**

engie
02-03-2015, 10:50 PM
We should probably cut him along with Black, Thomas, Ndoye, and Bloodman**

You can say he struggled to defend the biggest PG in the league without taking shots at him. I'd agree that he struggled there and overall tonight. But he was in foul trouble tonight and on the bench a ton too, so alot of that was forced timidity and also alot of it on Bloodman.

His 3rd and 4th fouls were horrid though. Really, Roq had a terrible night, not even sure Daniels got off the bus, Ware was rarely seen, Ready didn't do anything well, and we just won in a place that we NEVER won in in the recruiter's glory years...

Nobody is saying cut Ready. He is our best PG. But his Man has a career night every night. He has trouble guarding SEC PGs. Hell, the announcers talk about it. Richard Williams talks about it. I want Ready to be good but He is a smurf and will get lit Up. Why can some people blast Fred and Roq and Ware and it is Ok. They are the main reasons we are winning, besides Chicken. Ready is a great free throw shooter and can shoot is he is open. But He is a problem on Defense--sorry.

I guess you don't guard the PG if you are the front man in a zone. You just dribble up to Ready and shoot over Him if you are 6'6". Come on Coach, you are not that dumb, to take up for Ready's defense. And he get's his ass lit more often than not. I'm glad he outplayed Gray. Ready is a good player. He is a huge reason for our turnaround BUTTTTTTTTTTTT he is a MAJOR liability on defense, inbounds plays and bringing the ball upto half-court. JRich robbed him blind last night and tomahawk dunked it in his face for payday. Sword was more effective bringing the ball up late in the game when UT was in full-court press than IJ. He's only a soph and I'm very pleased with Ready's development so don't take my post the wrong way. However we do need a big PG to backup Ready when the other team has a 6'6 full grown man as their PG.

Jamont Gordon - played there out of necessity, was never a natural PG; he had some advantages there and some disadvantages.
Dee Bost - 6'2"
Timmy Bowers - 6'2" and another tweener
TJ Honore - 6'1"

Yes, these guys were all bigger than Ready, but none of the above outside of Gordon was really big as a PG. They would all struggle to keep a 6'6" guy from shooting over them.

Yes, obviously Ready is smaller than a majority of PGs. But you act like no one has ever played a small PG in college with success. There is a long list of sub-6'0" college PGs who have been great while in college. Some a good bit smaller than Ready, even.

Smoot, I am talking about Ready not some small PG at another School. Sure some small PG can defend just not Ready or Bloodman. There is a lot of difference from 6'1" to 5'9". Whatever the reason jamont played He was All-SEC and if we had Jamont as our PG today we would be playing in the post season. I get both sides of this argument -- just don't really see the point in arguing it.

The reason that we got lit up last night was on second and 3rd chance opportunities. When you give up offensive rebounds off deep balls, plays are essentially broken down, and you are 1-2 passes away from an open 3. That's why we absolutely can't afford to give up the rebounds that we did last night.

The killer thing to me is -- we played like crap last night as a team -- and beat a bubble team on the road. The Road Warrior group never won in Tennessee(we didn't play there in 04), but never beat them up there in any of the years that Stansbury took us dancing. It was a huge ass accomplishment. And we only REALLY had ONE player show up -- Sword. Thomas's shot showed up -- but his handle and passing sure didn't -- and he had like 7 turnovers. THAT is the most encouraging part of all this. We have one guy shooting -- even if everyone else is having shitty games -- we can beat every team in the conference at every venue in the conference sans UK and mayyybe Arkansas. That's tremendous progress in a short period of time...
