I am prob in the minority here but I think that Melvin to Townsend was a downgrade... Brewster to Sallach was DEF a downgrade. to me Brewster is the best assistant we have lost besides Hud.

Melvin to anyone wouldn't be a downgrade in coaching. Recruiting 15 years ago yes. In 2014, no. Hud was his only taker, that says enough.

This.....the joke 15 years ago was that Melvins coaching technique on corners was
"Don't let the damn WR behind you".......

He was never a technique coach - he was a good recruiter

QB/"OC"- Les to Brian = upgrade
RB- Knox the whole time.
WR- Hud to Mirando to Brewster to Gonzales = Downgraded with Mirando, but Brewster and Gonzalez were both solid hires.
TE- Sallach the whole time.
OL- Hevesey the whole time.
DL- Turner to Wilson to Turner. Not really an upgrade or downgrade.
LB- Torbush to Manny to Geoff back to Manny = Upgrade with Manny, slight downgrade with Geoff but not bad, slight upgrade with Manny.
CB- Melvin to Deshea = Upgrade.
S- Hughes the whole time.

Actually not too many downgrades and some of the downgrades in my eyes are debatable or only slight downgrades.

I don't understand why on earth Sallach is still on staff. I know he and Dan are buddies but he is an awful recruiter and a terrible TE coach.

I keep holding out hope that he'll get moved to the desk job he was headed to before Brewster left.
