Anyone know where I can buy a large (12" with handle) cowbell unfinished? I'd like to personalize it myself. I'm looking for one that's loud, not the thin tink, tink ones.

Battle bell. By far the loudest, sturdiest bell out there. I know they are expensive, but they are well worth it.

Yeah those are great. Unfortunately, I'm looking to buy about 4 and don't want to spend $600+.

Go buy those basic blue and red ones at Kohl's and repaint them. They had them at the Kohl's in Jackson. Tons of them. Here they are on line.

Tractor Supply has 5" ones for 7 bucks. That's measuring from top to bottom without included the strap piece that is cut into for attaching a handle. Your local county co-op may carry them...got a 7" at Madison County co-op in Canton for 9 or 10 bucks. Got the last one early in football season but they were ordering more. 7" is huge, biggest I've seen that is an actual cowbell.
