make him the HC for 2015-2016...and allow him to hire a "coach in waiting" to take over in a year or two?

Not sure it's necessary to forgive him for his mistake, but ... that other stuff ... no.

I forgave him a LONG time ago.

He's already working for the university, so I'd say he's already forgiven

Hire him before halftime is over.

It was some great times when we were in the Final 4. Seems like an eternity now.

why hire him? In 12 seasons he only won 20 games 3 times. only made the ncaa tourney 3 times and missed the post season entirely 7 times.

You're right, but he does have a deep understanding of college basketball, he loves the game, and he loves to coach.

I would have kept him from the get go if he had chose to stay.

There WAS that little thing called the Final Four though. What Williams inherited was worse than what Ray inherited, way worse. It's hard to overstate just how far Williams took us. I was a season ticket holder and rarely missed a game back then. It was something to behold, the transformation under Williams.

Do you realize how bad we were when he was hired?

Just thinking out loud here. Maybe we are even considering this because of the 'quiet' circumstances in which he left. Meaning there wasn't some wild media frenzy that embarrassed the university.

Assuming that's true, there were probably some stipulations that made that possible. Most likely one was that there would be no reunion, ever. If I were the one of the involved parties, that would have been one of mine. Of course, another one would have involved a baseball bat.

Because our program was much worse then than it is now when he was hired. He also led us to a Sweet 16 and then a FF the next year- something Stands never sniffed

Richard Williams would be an afterthought in MSU history without the talent Rick Stansbury brought in. Having a deep understanding of the game and loving to coach are all well and good, but it's difficult for anybody to do it to level you guys expect without talent. Especially Richard Williams.

We need to do this the right way. At the end of the season. Just make a change and move on.

Williams won an SEC title with the talent he brought in before Stands ever set foot on campus...stop being an idiot

While that's technically true, Richard Williams' records before Stansbury got to campus looked a whole lot like Rick Ray's. Richard Williams wouldn't improve this team one iota.

The point remains that calls to remove Rick Ray right now are short-sighted and senseless.

No but it couldn't be as bad as it is currently.

Surely to goodness Ray is gone at the end of the year, and Stricklin better be getting either his short list and feelers out or resignation ready.

You really got to be joking about bringing Richard back.

Lol Get fired up. You were the one to contradict your own post then go back with a but. Don't get mad when you get called out because of it. Don't be mad at other people and call names because you have a lack of a clue.

Richard Williams made the NIT with a bunch of JR's the year before Stands was hired...the next year, that Sr laden team won the SEC and made the NCAA Tourney. It literally had nothing to do with Stands coming on board. You ****ers trying to change history are pathetic

Change history? I was one of the few loyal fans we had when Richard Williams came to MSU. All I know is that I watched A LOT of craptastic basketball and a lot of painful losses. You can't tell me that I didn't because I was there.

Yeah, yeah, yeah. He was 7-11 in the SEC, 16-14 overall and went to the NIT in his fourth year the season before Stansbury came. If that's your proof of Richard Williams' greatness, then you need more proof. That team was 8th in a 10-member conference and wasn't really all that good. Who's trying to change history? Richard Williams' best teams came with Rick Stansbury on the bench and the best one was with players Rick recruited. Period.

A mid-season change from Rick Ray to Richard Williams does nothing to improve this team.

Maybe Coaches ties to Richard is the reason for hate of Stansbury. Gotta be a reason in there somewhere.

The reason Ray can't win is His inability to recruit SEC guards.

Just make a clean break from Ray. Stricklin can get off his ass and go get us a $2 mill head coach. Auburn's AD flew to Pearl and refused to leave till Pearl signed with him. Do that Stricklin. Be more like that.
