OT: New Gas Smoker

Maybe to get our minds off of an awful basketball game, you can give me some pointers.
I have never used one before but got a gas smoker for Christmas. It has a bowl at the bottom for water and wood chips.
Is there anything I need to do special the first time I cook on it? Also, has anyone ever used a gas smoker and have any tips for me? Thanks in advance.

Step 1. Return the smoker.
Step 2. Buy an Orion

best bang for your buck is a weber kettle 22.5 with a smokenator. Im in the market for an assassin gravity smoker, getting ready for competition season.
