I think you guys will enjoy this list. All realistic and some great names on there. There are the names everyone is saying plus a few. Personally, I'd love to see Mullen interview David Gibbs. Great career.

I think Odom (Memphis) needs to be on the short list and I can't discount a guy like Steele from Bama who has some DC experience

Ya I like Odom too. It wouldn't hurt to add him

Steele or Lance Thompson. Both have been DC before and both coaching LB now at Bama.

The more I look into some of these candidates, the more I like Steele. He was pretty well qualified already, and a few years under Saban and Smart can't have been anything but positive.

If Odom gets Mizzou offer, he is gone there.

Good write up. My list is 1A Bill Clark 1B David Gibbs 2 Odom

If we land 1A or 1B I will be very happy with how things played out.

Thanks and I agree. End of the day, there are numerous good candidates and many mentioned by the others prove that

I love the DJ Durkin hire and he coaches Linebackers. What I love the most though was he was special teams coordinator at bowling green in 2006 Stanford from 2007-'09 and Florida from 2010-'12. Hire Durkin as DC and have him oversee the ST's.

That's what I really like about him. If he could take STs, that would be a huge load off Mullen

Thanks for breaking it down, Beast. I love the idea of a 36 year old, energetic guy like Durkin that has experience at big time programs and a prior relationship with Mullen. He is my top choice as of right now.

Throw in the fact that he has LB and ST experience, and I think he is exactly what we need.

So you want to give a young coach 2/3rds of the game? I think I'd rather him prove himself with defense before I considered even more responsibility

It would win the press conference for sure. Is he the best candidate?

No. Hell no. Unless we are hiring Coach O to be DL coach and recruiting coordinator(out of our price range, IMO), we would be making a huge mistake. Mullen is an offensive guy, we need a defensive guru.

I have to wonder what kind of $ it would take to land Coach O. Dude can land recruits, and I have to wonder how well he could sinc with David Turner.

CDM did make mention earlier in the season about losing an assistant here and there due to asking them to work so many hours. No one brought this up since in the Collins threads I've read so far. ( unless I missed it). Coach O has that energy for sure.

No way in freaking hell can your DC be your ST coach- what is wrong with you people? Being a DC takes more time and prep work than any other job.

I think that would be awesome. Won't happen, but it would be great.
