Auburn Football Player Jakell Mitchell Shot and Killed
An Auburn university football player was shot and killed at an apartment near the school's campus, police said Sunday. Auburn Police spokesman Will Matthews said officers responding to a call about shots fired just after midnight found 18-year-old Jakell Mitchell suffering from a gunshot wound.
Mitchell succumbed to his injuries at the East Alabama Medical Center, Matthews told NBC News. He said police are investigating the incident and there is no suspect in custody. Mitchell is listed on the Auburn Tiger's website as a freshman originally from Opelika, Ala. He redshirted this football season, according to The Associated Press.
