I can't decide if it was the Bama game, when UM started losing, or when LSU, TAM, and AUB started losing to other teams we beat. Whatever the reason, we aren't getting much respect.

I don't usually pay much attention the the "experts", but you have to wonder if this strategic rejection will eventually get into the heads of the committee.

No way, they haven't turned. Most of the media have us in the top 4 and we did lose a game (turned in a very poor 1H) against Bama.

The narrative about Big-12 and B1G in the first ever playoff keeps viewers glued to the screens. If they said there was no chance for OSU, Baylor and TCU, people would tune out. This is all about ratings. If we do our job, we're in. The media folks know that if they say that, they should just stop talking about it because most of them expect us to stomp OM. Even Herbie said as much this week and he's a huge supporter (obviously) of OSU. No conspiracy here, it's just about TV ratings and readers.

The national media hasn't turned against MSU. They have turned against the SEC having two teams in the playoff. Since most of the national media doesn't have SEC ties and thus it seems like they are ganging up on us.

It isn't personal. It's just that we are in the 4th spot and in the SEC. Therefore we are the whipping boy. If you asked them in private if they thought MSU was one of the best 4 teams in the country, they would probably say yes. However, many of them could care less because we would be the second SEC team.

It just comes with the territory. After this weekend, our resume will speak for itself.

For a while, we were the feel good story. Underdog does good. But now that there is a chance for 2 sec teams to be in playoffs, the feel good story has gone up in smoke. The media wants 4 teams from different parts of the country. That is all there is to it. We are 4th, so we are the one they want booted.

Randy makes a good point. If they say, "yep, the playoff committee has it right". That isn't interesting TV and you lose viewers in other parts of the country. Also, we are an easy target coming off a loss to Bama and playing a weak Vandy next. We might as well had an off week because beating bandy proves nothing to some people. Ashame we didn't have Arkansas after Bama to get a notable win.

When they realized that they had gotten all the ratings mileage they could muster out of our story, Dak's story etc. Look at the population base in CA, OH, MI, TX etc., that's about 25/30 x the possible ratings bump from MS/AL. They have to make it interesting for the rest of the SEC hating nation or they lose potential revenue, and that is why they are in business in the first place, to make money. Nobody outside of the immediate region wants to hear anything good about us or the strength of the SEC, if all the talking heads concurred on that truth, nobody but the SEC footprint would watch and that is the bottom line.
So far the selection committee has shown that they don't care about tv ratings or anything but how the teams match up and compare to each other. I would be very shocked if they showed any other agenda but to select the best 4 teams the rest of the way. WE WIN, WE'RE IN!

When the media realized there could be 2 SEC teams in the playoffs, and 1/2 of the country's population would not be represented by anyone, they said get MSU out.

It makes me wonder how many Nat'l championships in the past were "real", vs. popularity contest.
