View Full Version : How come Ndoye got to redshirt his NCAA suspension year but Redmond didn't?

Did the NCAA just tack it on to Redmond to be punitive? Does basketball have different rules than football?

I'm glad Ndoye gets to play 4 years and all, but why can't the NCAA just be consistent? Either everyone should be able to redshirt their suspension years or no one should.

Redmond was for violating rules

Ndoye just didn't fully qualify right?

Ndoye never got eligible by the NCAA until midway through the season, that's why he was able to redshirt. Also, it wasn't a NCAA suspension, they just didn't declare him eligible.

What? Ndoye wasn't suspended.

The NCAA wouldn't let Ndoye play last year. The NCAA wouldn't let Redmond play in 2012. Yes, the specific reasons were different, but the fact remains that NCAA held each of them out for a year (or longer).

I won't matter anyway. Redmond would be going pro after next year regardless

Redmond was punished for violating NCAA rules. Ndoye just hadn't done enough to be cleared yet. The two situations aren't even close to the same. You're trying to draw a connection where there isn't one.

If Redmond wants, I would expect the NCAA to accept his appeal and grant him another year for 2016 effectively making his suspension 6 games and honor his redshirt year.

same deal for people being able to apply for medical redshirts after their eligibility is exhausted.

I would not expect this to happen.
