Vanderbilt has 11, so they need to get killed by the draft. My feelings is we lose 2, don't know which two but that is they number I think it will be.

They have Pickett lower than I expected.

He's a good hitter but what about defense? BA has him at 1B.

I've seen Pickett projected as a left fielder in MLB. That may have more to do with his arm strength than anything if I had to guess. Defense in baseball to me is something that is more about putting in time and effort to be good at it more than anything. It's probably the easiest of the five tools to teach in my opinion- Pickett's power is something that you can't teach.

If he's the 70th best HS player in the country- we're talking about 3-5th round grade.

My Vanderbilt cohort said he expects to lose 6 of the 11.

He said on twitter he will be working out for MLB teams.

Pickett? Or your Vanderbilt cohort?

Pickett will work out for them. Vandy cohort is a lawyer in NY!

Yep. No way there are 69 high school players in America better than Pickett.

There really aren't any guys on that list who I necessarily have a "bad feeling" about us being able to keep. I'm sure we'll lose a couple, but there aren't any like Vallot who you feel are probably 80% going pro.

I feel the same way you do about the guys that they have listed in the top 100. What we have to avoid is what happened with Dale Burdick last year where we have a guy that gets drafted in the last round and then still signs.

Exactly, there is no point in wasting effort on recruiting guys that are good but looking for any chance to get into pro ball immediately. If I remember right Burdick signed for around 150K or something. That's chump change to skip playing at high level college. We need to find guys that will go if its money they can't pass up but are not looking to jump at any offer made.

Yes, and I think Burdick is an anomaly in that regard. I understand wanting to play pro baseball, but if he had some to MSU, odds are very good that he would have improved his stock over three years- and probably would have ended up a top 10 round pick. I was pretty surprised when he signed with the Mets.

He was a good risk to take because of his friendship with Luke Alexander.

Vandy has scholarship money than anyone else, plays in the SEC, and offers a world class education. They are literally the best of all worlds for national recruits. Until they lose their "Need based scholarship money", you can expect them to still have more MLB prospects than most every MLB Minor League System.

Look at the stats, Vandy is producing more Major League Baseball players than most any minor league system. It's nuts
