From outside of ms. Wonder how much of that can be attributed to our success in football

How many students could Miss State handle? There would have to be a cut off point unless you start having classe 24/5.

A lot

Not sure. Obviously, not all of that 21% gets admitted, and even less come, but I imagine we could hande the percentage of that 21% increase that does come here.

ETA. That's all just out of state. Anyone know of any in state admission increases?

I can imagine we'll take as many out-of-state people as possible since they bring in new $$$$.

We had a similar boost after the final 4 run.

Look at Bama under Saban. They used to be around 21-22K students until Saban went on his run, and now I believe they are over 30K with a huge jump in non-resident enrollment.

Continued football success will build not only the school but the surrounding cities. Love it.
Dan can change not only the football team and the school, but the surrounding towns, and the whole state.

We need a big jump if we're going to meet Keenum's enrollment/growth goals. The last 2 years have been disappointing in that regard. He wants to be at 22k by the beginning of next year as part of his 5yr growth plan. We're almost 1900 away right now. http://www.msstate.edu/web/media/detail.php?id=5337

We can handle it and it's great news. Keep 'em coming.

You do realize you linked to a release about the 2011 class? and we were only a little more than 1500 away then.

Just for a little perspective... I'm making these numbers up for simplification.

Let's say we have 20,000 students. Average of 5000 incoming freshman per year. Google search says MSU has a 65% acceptance rate which means they receive an average of (5000/.65) 7700 applications per year. Increase that 20% (1.2*7700) and you have about 9250 applications. So, they can continue to accept 65% and end up with freshman class over 6000 students, or increase their standards of acceptance which would help all the GPA/ACT averages...

You do realize that our attendance has declined since 2011? We are at 20,138 in 2014. Hence where my 1900 number came from.

I linked Keenum's stated "goal of 22,000 by 2015" with the intention of showing it as a long-term goal of our university -- making that point more effective with the oldest version of the stated goal that I could find. The link was not intended to have anything to do with the numbers in the 2011 class.

maybe we can get more selective if we have increased applications. Who is the biggest school in the state? is it ole miss or us?

Ayers prevents us from getting very selective. Otherwise, we'd be alot more selective than we currently are.

We are. Except when OM pulls a number skew and tries to include UMC in their numbers...

So Ole Miss has approximately 3,000 more students than us. I guess their out of state students account for a lot

They count UMC toward enrollment...

Yeah...we have OM on attendance if they only count the main campuses.

FWIW, over 50% of the enrollment at UMMC are MSU grads.

Anyway you cut it. Without out of state, OM would dry up. We are dominating fans and students from MS.

This link is from 2013 regarding OM enrollment. Shows a total of 22,000+ which includes the Oxford campus along with campuses at Tupelo, Southaven, Booneville, Grenada and UMMC.

I'm sure the 2014 totals of 23,000 plus include all of the above also.
