Our depth at corner took a hit when he got injured. I haven't heard anything about him lately. What was the nature of his injury..and is he going to miss the whole season?

He had surgery on a tendon in his quad & yes he's out for the season.

So he will redshirt this season? And I'm assuming he will get a medical for his freshman year. Although he will technically be a junior next year, he will be a sophomore in reality due to the medical he will get after his senior year. Am I correct?

No. He's already redshirted. However, he was injuried the Year he was redshirted , which does make him a perfect candidate to get a 6th year hardship. But you can not apply for the 6th year until AFTER the player's 5th year has been completed.
