Read an email from 27 year old MSU FB player about what FB meant to him.

Worth a listen.

Cowherd was arguing that even though football can lead to lasting injuries that hamper guys long after their playing days, it also does a lot of good. It gets kids into college that normally wouldn't be able to qualify. It gives them an opportunity to get an education and make something of themselves.

He then read an email sent in from a former MSU player. The short version is he grew up poor in central MS. Went to Juco out of HighSchool. Committed to State and served as a back up for 2 years. Married a MSU soccer player and now lives in Charleston, SC making 6 figures in medical supply sales and credits it all to football.

I heard the story live on the radio but didn't catch the players name. He did say in his email that he never lived up to his 4 star rating (for all you star gazers).

Says his name was Phillip, who had to be Phillip Freeman based on his description of a 6-6, 300 lb lineman.

Go to the ESPN Radio app and look for the Herd with Cowherd. It's at the 28:00 mark of the 3rd hour.

Phil is a really nice guy. He definitely grew up tough - it's good to see him doing well.

It was a great segment and great to hear about a former player.
