Reading the Bo Bounds thread and seeing people discuss stars and how you can't really tell how good someone will be until 2-3 years after high school got me thinking. What qualifies most of the guys to really evaluate talent? I really like Paul Jones and think he does a good job, but basically he's a journalist that observes players and sends his evaluations up the chain... A co-workers son recently graduated college and recieved a job with scout covering NC high school football, he's never played football in his life but is assigning rankings for many of those players.
Maybe some of these services employ ex-coaches or NFL scouts to assist, I have no idea, just think it's funny that so much weight is placed on a star ranking given to a kid based off of what seems to be largely an uneducated opinion.
