View Full Version : How many points does MSU need to score to win against LSU?

Bo Bounds threw out this question this morning, and I actually agree with him in that this will be a low scoring game.

1. We have two teams that love or should love to run the ball = Running clock. This game will be a quick one. Not enough time to score a ton of points.

2. Both defenses are legit. = Not a lot of point scored.

I think we see a good many punts in this game, a few big plays, and a number of 8-10 play drives that eat the clock up.

I think MSU need to score 21 points to win. I feel good about things if we get there.

We only need to score one more than they do.

Since Bo thinks we have no shot at winning the game why is he still talking about it.. Maybe he should talk about how awesome it is going to be in oxford if game day comes there in 2 weeks.. And he can break down where they will set up in the grove ....

First to 24 wins

That was my number as well which sucks for us because we either get to 24 by scoring three TDs and converting the 2 points conversion all 3 times or we score three TDs with the extra point and have to...........kick a FG. That scenario scares me.

But I seriously think 24 wins this game. It's gonna be a perfect night for football. Should be in the low 80's to upper 70's. Only a 10% chance of rain. I think we can put up 24 against LSU's defense in that scenario. I'm not sure LSU's can unless we turn the ball over a couple times.

I think in order for us to get to 24 we have to have zero turnovers and need to create at least one ourselves to either stop a deep drive or get us in plus field position to put a TD drive together. It's tough to orchestrate more than two 75+ yard TD drives in Tiger Stadium at night.

Any chance to drop kick it instead of a field goal? Is it even legal any more? It may be worth a shot?

I think 29 is almost a certain win. I think 18+ and we've got a great shot.

I worry about them ripping off big plays (run, pass, special teams, and defense) and FGing us to death...

I'm deathly afraid of them blocking a punt this weekend.

I'm guessing LSU puts up 21-24 points. Since I don't see us putting the ball through the uprights, except possibly xp's, I say we need 27-28 which allows for 1-2 missed xp's. So, 4 TD's does it I think.

I think we win if we hit 28

I think LSWho scores between 17-24 so we probably need 4 touchdowns minimum.

The dropkick is still legal but is possibly the only play/kick type that is more unreliable than our place kicking game.

I hope we can build a 10 pt lead and sustain it where we can coach and play without great pressure for a stop at the end. I went to my first game in Baton Rouge in 1989. Seen lots of fluky plays over the years. One that sticks out was a punt return that our players assumed wasn't going to be fielded. I think it was Kennison that scooped it up and took it back 100 yds. In the 2000 ot game, LSU player dropped the ball a couple of steps before crossing the goal line. No replay back then.

I still can't believe none of the analysts have acknowledged that LSU hasn't given up a single point in 9 quarters. We're gonna have to play flawless. Our defense will have to win this game for us.

35 pts will make me comfortable.

Don't we know, nothing like being on the wrong end of a 3 to 2 game.

Sam Houston and ULM. It's a nice stat, but it's not earth shattering against that competition IMO. If we had played USA and USM back to back, we would have given,up 3 points in 8 quarters.
