View Full Version : Speaking of Jackie's play calling...

Jackie had a goal line play where the Tight End blocked for a three count and then released and drifted over the middle or out into the flat for the score. I never remember that play failing. It brings to mind Doug Barfield old line, "One of the absolutes in football is 'the tight end is always open'"

Did that play ever fail? If so, when?

Mullen has his fail-proof play too. QB run up the middle.

I don't think that's the same play he's talking about.

I remember us running the play described quite a few times with madkin at QB. I seem to remember one time where it went horribly wrong and may have been ruled a lateral that went out of bounds costing us quite a bit of yardage tho my memory may be failing.

Actually the win against PeyPey was one of the times I'm talking about. Every time I remember it being used, it worked.

I think it was the tight end middle screen. We used it a lot with Donald Lee. I think we scored a key TD in the snow bowl with it. If that's the one you're talking about. I loved Jackie's use of TE's...probably could have used them even more than we did.

I wish we would utilize more FB and TE on the goal line in play action with a run/pass option right now. We have the weapons, and it would add another dimension inside the Redzone or in short yardage.

Wasn't that Taite to Kendall Watkins for the win? I was there that day and remember how sweet it was seeing Peyton go down.

We would have flow to the right hard- looking like we were going to throw a screen to the TB in the right flats. TE would block, block, then release. I loved that play so much I installed it.

I gotcha. I was thinkin of the play where the TE runs parallel to the line left as everyone else rolls rite then throw back to the TE. I recall us runnin this several times in the 90s
