I have never seem that before. Market's helmet was still strapped on when he got hurt and they had to take it off and he had a gash on the side of his head? That's just hard to explain

What did the replay look like? From my seat, looked like the ball carrier's foot got close to Market's facemask. Cleat to the face?

We might see Market with a face shield.

No, it was a knee to the head...but it was at full speed. My guess is that the impact was so hard it just split his head open. It wasn't his face, and it wasn't a cleat. The gash was on the top/back right side of his head

We should have a Physics of Football explaining it at the next game. Get on it, Winters!

Apparently, he's not at MSU anymore.....he's not on the staff directory for the MSU Physics department at least.

I don't know how they are now but back when I played, the covers over the Riddell padding in your helmet could crack or tear and would produce a sharp edge of hard plastic. At our little poor-ass school we just put athletic tape over the tears.http://sports.mearsonlineauctions.com/ItemImages/000071/70727d_lg.jpeg
