Check this out - there has not been one cramp in fall camp. That's a great thing.

Coach Court is meticulous about hydration and that's a great thing. I bet we don't have any cramps during the season either. Probably have fewer pulled or strained muscles too.

We are going to be a fitter and leaner team this year. We will be big still, but it's going to be more football effective muscle, not so much bulk.

I feel at times last year we may have been a bit bulky and not as fit. Football is such an odd sport when it comes to the body. It's a marathon and a sprint all at the same time. Too fit and your body wears down physically from the beating. Too bulky and your body wears down from fatigue. You have to find that right balance and I like the direction our S&C is going towards us being more fit.

The interesting thing is we're actually almost 1lb heavier this year in average weight -- in spite of all the extra cardio stuff Court does and apparently being in better shape overall. It's incredibly difficult to accomplish both at the same time....

Knock on wood. Let's not offend the ancestral spirits. Did we ever call the Choctaw to see if they could come lift a curse or are we counting on it expiring on the 100th year?

I love the nutrition side of it Court has brought in. Some of that comes from the NCAA allowing a training table, but requiring the guys to have a smoothie, liquid and snacks after practice is brilliant. Get protein and carbs in them right after a hard workout. Helps recovery, develops muscle, gives an energy boost and cuts fat. I cannot wait to see what he's able to do next.

I really think the NCAA allowing the extra food to be provided by schools is going to benefit us tremendously. We've already got a great strength program, but to me the programs that control their players the most are the programs that are most successful. We need to try and control as much of the food and drink aspect of the players lives as much as possible because I know we will do it properly AND we will be able to monitor it and make adjustments as needed.

We do it in conjunction with what we do on the field that day and with what they are doing in the weight room. And to me this is why high school kids can be so difficult to evaluate. How many kids in high school that play football are actually on a nutritional diet that supplements what they need to play at the next level? That's why 2 and 3 star kids turn into draft picks. You get hard working kids with talent on a nutrition plan and a proper weight program and you can do wonders. High schools I've been around suck at adding good weight and muscle.

Crap Engie, I thought it was the roids. I mean didn't Hulk Hogan say take your vitamins and say your prayers, Lance Armstrong special chemo made him liter and faster. Even Reb Loser said roids so it has to be true.

We average 1 pound heavier as a team this year? But but but RebelBruiser said that we were putting on 40-60 pounds of lean body mass each off season

It's absolutely incredible that not one person has had 1 cramp. Major props to Court and our new nutrition specialist.

With that kind of conditioning it makes me wish we had one of our big games the first or second week while it is still so hot as I really think that would play to our advantage.

It'll be plenty hot all the way until mid-October. This is the South, our seasons are Hot, Hotter, Hell, Not as Hot.

This all day!!!
Mississippi is full of guys in the HS ranks that are more than able to play on the talent level of the SEC, but due to less than stellar coaching, poor diet, and not enough funds to make it to out-of-state FB scouting camps, most of these type guys never are found. I can assure you that we can find 10 or more of these kinds of guys just about every year. You get them into a legit weight program, feed them right, and suddenly you have guys that BLOW UP. Fletcher Cox gained over 30lbs his first summer/fall on campus because he was able to eat properly and get in a solid S/C program. yes, he was a 4* in HS, but i said it then that he would become massive during his first year on campus.
