Just another log on the fire. Let them start having a bad football season and watch them really implode.

The release explicitly said they weren't doing away with the nickname Ole Miss. (Also, if they did, UMiss is the same number of syllables as Ole Miss, so that's a dumb point anyway)

I'm so sure that the name Ole MS is safe after reading this report

The name Ole Miss will be gone in 10 years. If it takes that long. Some Faculty are offended, some students are offended.

Name me one thing that once it is labeled 'Offensive' doesn't eventually go away.

It gone.

I'm absolutely astonished that it's still used. How can an institution of higher learning model itself after the Old South, to the point where their nickname represents an old slave term, and people were ok with it from the beginning? Although I am quite impressed as to how they have swept enough of it under the rug all these years.

The "Martin Luther King BlackBearSharks" ... just a matter of time, get used to it.

I lost it at the part about not being ashamed of their past. That right there gives away the true feelings of this guy as well as a good chunk of their following.

Followed by not signing his name to it.

great. There may be more riots on campus if/when this occurs. I could see that happening.

Not being a gender stickler but I believe this was a chick. Letter Mentioned sorority numerous times, unless those bow ties have choked off so much air that they're referring to all Greek institutions as sororities.** which is quite possible after reading nafoom.

Guys, for those whining about the PC police, the name Ole Miss literally means the slave owners wife. That's unacceptable.

But they're not ashamed of it, so it's ok.***

Yet somehow they are proud of that nickname.

It's been a head-scratcher for most of my life - how they keep that name, but get little to no negative press about it. I mean freakin Washington Redskins are under fire but not Ole Massa?

The only reason it might stay is that UM has so many out of state students that are not going to want to say they went to the University of Mississippi. You think all the Texas alums want to say they went to a public university in Mississippi? When they say they went to Ole Miss, outside of sports fans, I'm not sure how many people realize it's a state school.

If they drop a few and lose to us they'll be at each other like two cats tied to each other and draped over a clothes line, especially if we win the recruiting NC come Winter

Wonder why the faculty members accepted positions there?

I have a cousin who accepted a position teaching there back in the 80's. She's a Notre Dame grad. She simply couldn't believe those people were wearing coats and ties to football games in 90 degree temps. She didn't stay long.

Sometimes I think about how TSUN people can be so different from us even though they've spent so many years growing up here in the same state. Probably a good subject for a separate thread.
