I know his dad is Jimmy Smith and all, and he is a really good HS player.
What position would he play at the next level?

5. Trey Smith, athlete, Madison Central

A ball carrier darts into the line of scrimmage. A pile forms. Somehow, Smith gets loose, bounces to the sideline and goes nearly the length of the field untouched to score. Smith does something similar time and time again. The 6-1, 210-pounder does it all for Madison Central. He'll play quarterback this fall, but he's also played running back, wideout, safety and linebacker. He recorded 2,300 all-purpose yards, including 1,473 on the ground, and had 19 total touchdowns to lead the Jags to the 6A quarterfinals.

According to 247 we did offer. Looks like he's going to Louisville. His dad played for Petrino when they were with the Jacksonville Jags..

Because we just haven't. Yancy put it out that we offered but we didn't. Trey even says we haven't offered. This is from an interview just last month.

Mississippi State has kept in touch with Smith over the recent months as a possibility of the class. The Bulldogs are keeping a close eye on him as he camps and goes into his final season at the high school level.

"I'm just waiting, working hard to see if I can get an offer from them," Smith said of MSU. "I love coach Knox as a coach. He's a great coach to learn from because he teaches fundamentals and keeps your head in the game. Just learning from him really helps me."

"They are just telling me to keep playing and maybe something will happen," Smith said. "I like it here. It's a place where you can enjoy yourself and grow as a person. I just love it here and the new facilities are just great."

He's a good player and we will continue to recruit him but we had Louisville and Hoover reciever higher on board... If something happens to one of them I could see him getting an offer

In addition to Petrino in this case, Louisville also has a coach that used to be at USM named Chris Kleinakis I believe. I totally butchered the spelling. But Louisville ended up with Jimmy Terry from MC last year- and he was a guy that we were considering signing and placing.

So, they have a little in road there at MC. They've offered Keenan Barnes as well.

As far as Trey Smith being a WR- I see him of more of an ATH than I do an outside WR. I think that if he played for us, he would be a slot guy, possibly a RB. I have heard that we were looking at him at LB as well.

Right now the issue is spots are tight obviously.
