Interesting, we'll get to face him this year.

I hope he doesn't go all Gary Ervin on us and have career game. Glad he seems to have gotten his act together. Should be interesting to see how he is received when his name is called

That double reverse pass summed up Favre's career here. Glad he is doing good, pretty cool that we will get to play him.

He won't. Mullen isn't Stans. And the disparity between MSU-UTM in football & MSU-UPig in hoops is huge.

He could possibly cause us some problems. He's pretty shifty, has a good arm, and is very accurate.

But how accurate will he be running for his life with Chris Jones chasing him about to cause him severe pain?

I always laugh when I see Jason Simpson's name. Any older dawgs may remember that he started his career at MSU and then ended up at Southern. I remember heckling him in the outfield during a midweek game back in 91 or 92. He played football and baseball. We told him to find us at the Landing later and we would buy him a beer. Sure enough, later that night he walks up and says "hey, you guys owe me a beer! I'm Jason Simpson, Southern Miss outfielder!"

He'll make some plays. We won't be on our A game, but our tall defense will be a problem for him passing the ball, forcing him to run around. Could be really bad for him. But I hope he has a great year.

You can laugh, but I recall the Bowling Green QB caused us some problems last year. They could have conceivably won had that kid not dropped the pass at the end.

That QB played for an FBS team that went 10-4 on the year and won its conference championship. Big difference between Bowling Green and UT Martin, which is an FCS team.

I'll ask the question. If he has a son, and he says in the article that he has to provide for him everyday, how does he do it? Athletes don't get paid and they say they do not have time for a job. So where does the money come from for diapers, food, clothes, healthcare, etc. for the kid?

We're a big boy now, enough with the little man syndrome. We are going to knock eyebrows dick in the dirt all day long and pick him off 3-4 times. It won't be within 30 points.

THIS. I'm sure he'll come out fired up and emotional and he may make a few plays here and there.

But we have a Dak.

I hate to be an ass, but I thought this quote was funny considering my expectation for him was to be a holder on field goals.

"A famous last name and an incredible career at St. Stanislaus set expectations unrealistically high."

I thought the coaching comment was interesting. Les Koenig came to an alumni event in Houston and said he was the smartest player on the team in terms of football knowledge, but he was more concerned with screwing up and being a shithead his whole time at State.

No kidding. Other than a few message board types, I'm not sure who realistically looked at mini-Favre and thought he was an SEC caliber QB. We signed him because he was Gatorade PotY and Mullen always wants to sign the GPotY for recruiting bragging rights. And his last name probably factored in a little too, if we're being honest. But he was never going to be more than a solid backup capable of the occasional spot start. Think Tyson Lee for reference. A good QB who didn't have the physical tools. He might be the best backup QB in the SEC, but you're screwed if he's your #1 starter. Same for mini-Favre, in my mind.

Favre was a GREAT high school player and had a system to put up huge numbers and some really talented players on his team- most went on to play college baseball.

I think that was also the year we missed out on Cam Newton and a couple of other QB's and we had to have somebody because at that time we had Relf and Tyler was coming off of his redshirt year and had not taken a snap at that point, so we didn't know what he could do.

I'm not totally shocked that he is a smart football player like Tyson. But he's like evil Tyson Lee. Dylan was all the time getting into trouble off the field.

I think most college athletes (football and basketball) have kids, a lot of them have kids before they get to college. I don't think having kids and having money have anything to do with each other, unless it's a reverse correlation.
