IMO, the most encouraging part of that article is that the only real loss they highlighted was Perk, and none of us are even talking about it. That's what's got me most excited about this year is just the fact that we lost so little

I don't like this extreme optimism at all. It's just not sitting right with me. Other than , say, Alabama, has there ever been a team that got this much fluff and actually met or exceeded expectations? I'm sure there has but I don't have a clue.

Give me extreme optimism over hoping we can at least win the coin toss any day.

Love that article. Need to find a path to win (at least) 2 out of 4 vs. A&M, Auburn, LSU, and Bama. Big challenges ahead but should be a great year!

We as State fans are not used to this type of media attention and high expectation but we must learn to get used to it. This is what it feels like to move from one level to the next. Think about Oregon, Baylor, Texas Tech and Oklahoma State. These schools were perennial losers too but they have changed their pedigrees just like us.

It's almost like the ugly duckling has now become the pretty girl that all the guys want. Now we have to learn to act like it. I'm not saying that we become cocky jerks, especially not now because we have done nothing so far. But we also need to understand that media will begin to fawn over us and other fan bases will begin to hate us regardless of how we act. Instead of going into each season simply hoping for the best our players will have expectations on them like other programs do. Ultimately this will help these young men because life has expectations: the expectations of being a man, a husband, and a father. This all comes with the territory. I don't know about you but I welcome this new era of Bulldawg football. I would much rather be here than where we were before Mullen arrived. Go State!

It is indeed a weird feeling. I just can't shake this "too good to be true" vibe. I like the publicity but damn I dread the embarrassment if things don't swing our way.

Love articles like these. These are the articles the team needs to see. We don't need to continue the "woe is me" attitude and the "we can't handle pressure" attitude. We need high expectations that are not unrealistic so that every single day this team knows that it is legitimately working toward winning the SEC West and getting to Atlanta.

The whole point of the new stadium renovation, the recruiting, rebranding ourselves, and putting emphasis on the Egg Bowl and winning the state isn't so that we don't put too much pressure on ourselves. It's to show that we expect to be on the national scene and that's the mentality that should be around this program from here on. We need high expectations to drive us forward into the future of the program. That future is now and it's time the team has the mentality that we are capable of raising the bar and not settling for just going to bowls anymore. Time to get to legit bowls and beat big teams on a consistent basis. We've spent 5 years building toward that and now we are finally here.

Yep. We have ourselves positioned for a big year. It's time to win some big games

all of the writers are discussing possibilities.... not necessarily probabilities - it's what writers do this time of year. The caveat here is this time it actually IS possible

The media picked us 6th in our own division and Steele has us 34th or something in his preseason poll. I don't think we are getting overfluffed.

Exactly. Some have us only at #8 in the conference. So I don't think we're being over-hyped.

Did you actually look at how dipshit Phil came up with his rankings? His method is elementary and ignorant. Plus he said OM had a better collective QB group than we do. That's all you should need to know how out of touch Phil is when it comes to true analysis.

Yet, you'll have folks on here defend Phil like he's their daddy.

I don't care how he came up with his rankings, the point is that a prominent member of the CFB media has us ranked in the mid-30s.

For every Jesse Palmer/fox sports, there's still 5 media members that are pegging us to finish 4th-6th in the west, win 6-8 games, and go to the liberty bowl.

To act like the "hype" we are getting is extraordinary is just plain wrong. There's plenty of teams every year that get far more hype than we have and have good seasons.
