The Cardinals have called up Audrey Perez to be the back-up for now.

Sucks for Ed and sucks for me as a fan to lose Yadier and also to not get Ed to the Big Leagues.

Now we get to see how much if any drop off there is with cardinal pitching. Always wondered how much pitching success could be attributed to Molina

So do the Cardinals look for a loaner at catcher to finish the year? I do not have a lot of confidence in Cruz, especially with a bat in his' hands when the Cards are really needing offense right now with all of the pitching injuries.

Some, but I think his biggest impact is felt in the run game. He completely shuts the other team down from that vantage point. Not to mention he picks runners off at times at first and the other night he picked Neil Walker off at third, which cost the Pirates a run.

They'll miss Molina's bat as well. He's a better hitter than most catchers.

Maybe if there is one that makes sense. I assume they are going to expect Molina back at the end of the year. AJ Pierczynzki got designated for assignment by the Red Sox the other day, so maybe he gets a loook.

Catcher ball receiving skills have proven to be a HUGE factor.

Will that require a lot of $$$$$$$$? Also, Garcia is done for the year and Wacha likely is done due to being the future so SP is another need. Rumors are they are talking to Peavy with Boston.

I definitely agree with that article. And Yadier is really good at framing pitches as well, and it's hard to find guys that are really good at framing pitches.

I doubt Pierczynzki would require a lot of money since he just got released. He would probably be very happy to sign with the Cardinals.

Garcia is done.

I think Wacha will be back after the All-Star break from what I have heard. He had a stress reaction to the scapula, which was not a fracture- but could have led to one. They'll be cautious, but I expect him back.

Joe Kelly finally comes back Friday.

So, sometimes after the All-Star break, they should have Wainwright, Wacha, Carlos Martinez, Lynn, Miller, and Kelly. I just don't see them going real hard after Peavey. The rumor I heard was Shane Robinson for Peavey though, which I could live with in terms of a trade.

I do think that one out of the group of Martinez, Lynn, Miller (most likely), and Kelly will be traded before the deadline though.

If AJ is cheap, sign him up now, and if Wacha gets shutdown like Strasburg, I will take a Robinson for Peavy trade. When you say Garcia is done, are you referring to the season or the Cardinals are done with him? Seems to be a bad situation between him and Mo with how he has handled the latest of a long list of injuries.

This is why catcher is a position where it is OK to sacrifice offense for defense. A catcher's ability to frame pitches can give them 1+ WAR for the year alone.

Those two pitches were at least six inches apart. Especially if you notice the release point.

Those pitches are actually about an inch and a half a part, but it looks more due to the catchers. Jose Molina sets up farther outside than Ryan Doumit does. There is less glove and head movement with Molina. Doumit catches the ball outside his leg and frames it back to his leg. Molina catches it at his leg and frames it to his middle section. There is a very clear difference in technique, and that is why in 2011, one was worth 35 runs over 120 games (Molina) while the other was worth -26 runs over 120 games (Doumit).

No, very different angles on release point. One catcher May frame better but these are two very different pitches. The ladder is easily called a ball wit any catcher.
