We've hired Zach Dillon to replace Wells. He comes from Iowa. What was his position at Iowa? Hitting Coach!!!!!

Agree, certainly appears to have a better resume than Jake Wells does.

Now if we could get a third base coach. Hell, maybe we should pull a random fan each game, couldnt be any worse than mingione over there.

Incidentally, Dillon also coached third base at Iowa according to that profile.

Apparently though he spent the last year coaching a high school travel ball team. Anyone know what was up with that?-

I think I remember Iowa going thru a coaching change after last year, because Godwin turned them down...

That would make him going from a paid assistant to volunteer assistant make sense, although the money probably isn't much different in this situation...

Why do they call it a volunteer coach. They get paid right?

Yes they get paid. It comes through other sources than baseball budget. NCAA strikes again.

So this is a loophole hire basically? Bulldog club or something 'pays' him, but on the book he's not a paid MSU employee?

Not directly, they don't. They make their money off camps and out of Cohen's various bonuses and side money.

It is a solid pickup, although he can't recruit, he knows people in Texas, Iowa. Solid hire.

He can't leave campus to recruit, I misspoke. But he knows people we don't know and that's a good thing.

I believe he can recruit on campus- but he can't travel around like Butch and Mingione to circuits or tournaments around the country.

Nice pick-up. He seems like what everyone pretty much wanted- a guy with a hitting background that can coach catchers.
