Also something that should raise a red flag for Wahl in the draft. ATTN SCOUTS!
Wahl has a SIERA of 4.34. Not good. The link explaining this stat can be found at the bottom of the post. Basically it is like FIP, but also adds in groundballs and flyballs. Obviously ground balls are better because they limit HR and XBH. Wahl's ground ball % is only 45%. His fly ball % is 43%. That don't translate well when facing top hitters.
To add icing on his cake he doesn't get that many K's and walks a good amount of people, his 19.5% is very pedestrian for a "top prospect". His K/BB ratio of 1.82 is downright shitty.
So here is a top Bear prospect that doesn't strike people out, gives up walks, and allows a ton of fly balls. I think he gets his ass rocked at the next level and won't pan out for much. If I am an MLB team, I'm saying "Thanks but no thanks" to this sheep in bear's clothing
So this was my analysis of Bobby Wahl.
This year he is 0-4 in 7 starts (30 IP) in A ball with a 4.93 FIP and 6.30 ERA. His K/BB ratio is still a shitty 1.93, as referenced in my analysis.
He has recently lost a starting spot with his A ball club. He was supposedly going to reach AA ball this year and have a future as a #3 prospect according to http://www.fangraphs.com/blogs/top-10-prospects-oakland-athletics/
Time will tell, but another example of Will James being on the cutting edge seems to be panning out.
