This assistant is a winner.

According to the Athens Daily Review, Vic Schaefer has appointed Elena Lovato to an Assistant Coach position on the MSU Women's Team.

Lovato has coached the Trinity Valley Community College team to back-to-back NJCAA National Championships. So yeah...this is a BIG hire for our Women's team.

Oh...and her record was 72-2 during those two years.

Excellent question and I'll add that if this is a pure addition then Ray needs to do this too. Not to hijack this and turn it into a Ray thread again.

I believe it is a straight addition...checking right now to confirm.

ETA: He only had two assistant coaches before now, I believe. So unless there was a loss that I didn't know about, this is a straight hire.

One of his assistants went to tsun, (don't know why) so I'm guessing it's to replace her.

I'd say that's a pretty good trade. They get one of our coaches and we get the best coach in the Junior College ranks. She also coached one of our current guards while she was in the JC ranks. I like this hire a LOT.

Chances are effectively zero after he declared that he and Diamond Stone, who has no interest in or connection to us, are a package deal.

edit: apparently other sources are saying the package deal isn't a guarantee.
