I think it's a great strategy that we are already seeing dividends from the investment with more to come.

The piece that gave me the idea to write this was by John Talty today on AL.com. Good work by Talty

Bama and Auburn are both national recruiting schools. They typically get the top in state talent, but after about the top 5-7 in state players, you've got guys that those two teams overlook for more talented out of state players.

We've got an active alumni base in AL, most specifically Birmingham, we've branched out heavily into Alabama, and we are just putting in the leg work to build a good network. I think we will continue this and I think it's going to be key in us elevating our status as a program. Alabama is a state that has a wealth of well coached players and it's great to see us take advantage of the very talented "left overs" that Bama and Auburn overlook.

I can't agree more. Not just athletes, but prospective students as well. Big metros in AL are closer to Starkville than most of the state of MS. Less than 2 hours to Hoover, same as Memphis and Jackson metros. Huntsville just 3.5 hours away. There is an MSU presence in SW AL and Mobile too.

And honestly, we may not be able to beat Alabama on Alabama players, but I think we CAN beat Auburn, especially ones on the west side of the state. Geography is huge. We got Beniquez Brown due to location, so it can happen. I doubt we'll beat them on many Montgomery guys.

We really need to completely waive out-of-state tuition in strategic counties in AL: Jefferson, Shelby, Madison and the state line bordering counties. We'd increase our enrollment like crazy. I think right now all they get is half off for alumni's children.

Not yet but I'm about to be. Between ACL surgery a week ago, moving up to Alabaster from Auburn two weeks ago and an 8 month pregnant wife, I've let my MSU duties fall to the side temporarily. But I'm about to get involved big time. I grew up here and know a few Bulldogs in the area so I'm extremely excited to get into an area full of Bulldogs and participate in activities with this alumni group

Good article. But if MS has a population of 3 million and AL has a population of 5 million, I am pretty sure AL's population would be 67% larger instead of 40% larger.
