Hands-of-stone Holloway has been moved to RB. How and when are we going to use him?

6-7 touches per game...screens/sweeps/wheel routes etc. That's what should be done at least. Mullen will probably try to run him up the middle in goal line situations though.

The kid is too small and fragile. He should be a return man unless he can beef up like Darren Sproles while keeping his speed. I have nothing against him, he's just very easy to tackle with one hand AND I'm scared he will get hurt and/or fumble an important possession in a big game simply because someone hits him hard or simply muscles the ball away. That hit Alabama had on him could have ended his career...he was fortunate

Option plays to the outside where he can get outta bounds

He still hasn't convinced me he could actually catch a screen or a wheel route

i noticed he did run up the middle a good bit during the spring game.

he's a 1st, 2nd, and 3rd quarter guy. Get him touches early and see if he can break one. If not, lean on the big boys to wear the D down. We've got too much talent at RB for him to be carrying the rock in the 4th. I'm not sure is let him return a kickoff in the 4th even unless we need a TD in under a minute or so.

KR and 5-8 touches per game max. If nothing else; use him to set up the fake sweep dive play for Dak. The inverted read option would work well with him coming across the formation to MoJo or Bear's side.

The reason for that is pretty simple: We're trying to spring him for a quick-hit homerun. Block it right, he's to the second/third level untouched and then it's a foot race. I like Hollloway's chances in a foot race. Plus, he's so small that he gets lost behind the OL. That said, every carry he gets as a RB is one he stole from J-Rob/Shump. He needs to be used solely on jet sweeps and as a return specialist. Anything else is hurting the team and mismanaging our personnel.

If I was coach I'd have him compete for the track team so that he could post some gaudy numbers then I'd stick him on the field in 2 back formation and never give him the ball. Sometimes the threat of a guy being able to breaking a 80 yard run, torching their fastest corner, is better than a guy actually trying to do it.

I'm not a coach though. Still, you'd figure all 13 teams we face this season will know that he was a track fiend in high school.

You have to actually give him the ball at some point for it to be a legitimate decoy.

I would like to see us use him a lot like Auburn used Ontario McCalebb, just with not nearly as many touches. Jet sweeps, options pitches, as an option in the diamond...but I'd only put him on the field for about 10 offensive plays a game.

So pretty much what everybody else said.

Since he can't catch, his value is going to be helping others make plays. Speed is speed and the defense will have to honor that. Get him involved in jet sweeps and the option game and the defense has to keep an eye one him for a little while. Dak can then make something happen the other way or go downfield with it. Disappointing that he can't catch, but we still find benefit from him if used correctly. I wouldn't expect him to put up big numbers though.

1st down: Robinson runs up the middle for 5 yards.
2nd down: 2nd and 5 - Robinson on the bench, Holloway in, runs up the middle or outside for loss of 4 yards.
3rd down: 3rd and 9 now - we go 5 wide, throw an incompletion.
4th down: 3rd and 9 - punt.

Not many are as fast as him and he's more durable than being given credit for. He's a homerun waiting to happen with his speed once he gets to the second level. Problem is can he get to the second level with the football and his head still attached?

I just don't see him getting 6-7 touches a game if his hands are bad enough that we would remove him from his natural position (slot). If he's not a true threat to catch the ball and is too small to block, basically every play we run when he's in has to either give him the ball on a run to the outside or have him as a legitimate decoy to get the ball on the outside. He may get 6-7 touches some games, especially against weaker opponents where a dropped pass won't kill us, but I expect him to average 2-3 touches against the SEC and probably 4-5 touches overall.

All this assumes you aren't counting punt returns in the touches.

I've actually always felt like he wasn't a natural fit in the slot - I don't think he has the change of direction or wiggle necessary to excel there. And you do need some size to be able to consistently get open there.

To me, he's kind of like Trindon Holliday - a natural-born return man that doesn't fit perfectly anywhere else on the football field.

He does fine at RB against our D in practice and scrimmages, and he shook off a huge hit on a KO return and bounced back up. I haven't seen anything that would lead me to question his durability.

Well sure. I didn't mean let him finish the season with 0 touches.

The season the Saints won the Super Bowl, Pierre Thomas put up legitimate numbers which can only be explained by him being in the same backfield as Reggie Bush. I want that.

I'm certainly not calling Holloway Reggie, but I doubt we face many teams if any at all who have anyone on the defensive side of the ball that are faster than Holloway.

THIS. He's a return specialist. Asking him to be anything more is asking for trouble. It's not hard to see for anyone willing to open their eyes and look. He could be the difference maker in the return game we've been looking for ever since Leon Berry graduated.
