He's got an ERA of 4 in about 95 IP, and teams are hitting .270 against him.

One thing I like about this matchup is Seyler's a little wild at times. Between BBs and HBPs, he's given up 40 free passes this year in those 95 IP. Considering our offense usually does a lot better when our hitters battle and force guys to throw a lot of pitches and give us free bases, this looks like a pretty decent matchup for us... Better than facing that Bubba Derby guy anyway.

Truth. This is their #2 starter. It seems that they have the same philosophy that we will have. Save your best starter for a possible matchup against the #1 seed.

Good stuff. He's a RHP correct? If so, I really hope we DH Detz instead of Vickerson, and play Rea at 1B. Rea is too good defensively IMO not to play 1st

Only difference is that we always pitch Fitts Friday. I'm a little surprised they aren't throwing Derby. Glad they arent

So what you are saying is we will try to play little league ball at the plate and hope he walks about 4 runs in. Kinda like we played most of the year right. Instead of being aggressive let them screw up and give us a few runs and then depend on pitching and D for the win. Mississippi State baseball

Aztec board is saying Seyler is getting the ball vs us. 6'2 180lb Jr. RHP, 8-5 3.99era, 1.38 whip, 76ks in 94.2 ip. Nothing special here.

That's an odd move on their part.

I agree...not sure what their thinking is

Looks to me like they are mirroring our strategy. It's about winning the regional and the best chance to win the regional is to throw your best on Sat and trust that your team can get you through game 1. This is the school that threw Strasburg in game 1 and lost 5-1 and then won the next two games.

My guess is it's probably weather influenced. And that's a dangerous thing to do in baseball.

I read that SDSU played the maximum number of games possible in their conference tournament- and that supposedly threw off their pitching rotation. I'm not sure how valid that is, but it was said somewhere.

That could be true. Especially since they were probably in a win or stay home situation potentially. I could see them throwing their ace to stay alive.

Doesn't look like they have a true ace. Seyler's last outing in the tourney vs New Mexico he went 5.2 giving up 5 hits 3 R 5 BB and struck out 1.

Their #1 threw two games in the tourney including 4+ in the Sunday game. That's why they'll hold him.

Could turn out to be a double bonus for us. In a scenario where we win the first two, if they play it right, SDSU will be pitching their #1 in the losers bracket game versus ULL's #3. That assumes they don't use him in the first losers game against JSU but they might not hold him in a win or go home even against JSU.

True, but we pitched Pollorena on Fridays last year and went with Graveman in Game 1, and that was vs. a 4 seed.

A pitcher with an ERA above 3 and a fairly high BB ratio, I'll take it!

It's probably a foregone conclusion that ULL's number 3 (or 4) will face the Sonic Boom

Likely not a bad move by them anyway. If they do win they have their best for a better hitting team in ULL. For us, seems we normally score our regular 3 to 5 runs no matter who pitches. We rarely get shut out (although Nola did it to us but nobody in this tourney has a pitcher like that) so I expect us to score a few runs but rarely do we ever throw up 7+ runs no matter who we face. Lots of Sundays in the SEC, where you are supposed to be facing someone's third starter, we still often struggled to score enough runs to try and scrape out a win.

But ULL doesn't have a #3 or even a #4. That would be 1c and 1d. ***

That #4 happened to be a team that had already taken 2 of 3 from us at Dudy Noble. I understand why he threw Graveman in that specific case. Central Arkansas IMO was not a 4 seed. Shit, they played us for the regional championship.

I am kind of interested to see how all 10 SEC teams do in the regionals. Hopefully we can get 9 to the Supers with Ole Miss going home. That would be epic.

Alabama struggling to hit Kennesaw State early, but Kennesaw can't take advantage. Still scoreless in the fourth.
