Don't look now, but his BA is starting to come up. Now sitting at .275/.350/.518 with 10 HRs and 13 2Bs in 193 ABs. His Ks are still high, at 59, though it seems like they have slowed somewhat lately.

Let's hope he can continue to hit and gets called up before too long. The Padres may want him to just keep seeing pitching and get fully comfortable at one level before promoting him.

So Renfroe is doing better than the great Mason Katz?

If he can get his Ks down in the low 20% in the minors, he has a chance. Definitely seems like the Ks have slowed of late. He was well over 30% for awhile.

His K rate of about 27% isn't just grossly terrible. He's got a pretty good BB rate of around 8% right now. Obviously, you would like to see the K rate closer to 20 and the walk rate around 10 or so, but he's making good contact with the ball when he makes contact. .518 SLG with a .380 wOBA and 135 wRC+. His ISO is .244 right now. This guy is a major power hitter, and power hitters tend to strike out at a fairly high rate.

You know something is up with the college bat when this guy gets a hold of one and it dies at the wall like it did in Omaha.

San Diego is also projected to take Bradley Zimmer in the draft. If they do that, they could have one heck of an outfield with Zimmer and Renfroe in a couple of years.

Except that he actually hit one out...breaking ball off his front foot to be exact.

Yeah, but that one was hit on a line right down the line, just like the only other HR hit in Omaha last season. No one hit one out to the power alleys, and no one has ever hit one out of TDA to dead center. You can't make me believe a guy who hit something ridiculous like 30+ HRs in a wood bat summer league should only hit about 15 HRs with a metal bat, unless those bats are completely shitty.

The college bats are complete shit. Not to bring this argument back up again but college needs to either go back to the old metal bats or just use MLB wood. Don't say there's not enough good wood. I don't buy that for a second. Eliminate a shit league if needed but D1 major college baseball should be using the exact same bats and balls as the pros.
