My amateur detective skills say its something about talking shit to the other MSU about not offering.... and now leaving UM.

Just did a quick google search, found an article calling him possibly the best kicker in Michigan state history...kicked FGs of 50, 53, 54, and 57 in HS. Yeah, that'll do.

How much you wanna make a bet I can kick a football over them mountains?... Yeah... Coach woulda put me in fourth quarter, we would've been state champions. No doubt. No doubt in my mind.

Please tell me this isn't the same guy that was recently arrested or investigated for something illegal. Can't rememwbr the details but i recently read something about a michigan kicker (that seemed big for that position) getting into some legal trouble

I'm not sure. For some reason I was thinking he was doing the graduate transfer thing but not sure why. I have no idea

Nope. Was not on scholarship. Apparently that makes a difference.

Apparently, this is true. This article says he'll be eligible immediately: Michigan walk-on kicker J.J. McGrath will transfer (http://www.mlive.com/wolverines/index.ssf/2014/05/michigan_walk-on_kicker_jj_mcg.html)

Hell. Yes. He HAS to be better than what's currently on our roster. Now let's hope our ST "coaches" don't f him up between now and the season.

Well our previous SP Team coach did a lot of meddling with our kickers. Brauchle told me that Mullen tried to change his footwork from a 3 step kick to a 2 step kick and really jacked up his kicking motion.

Isn't the kid from Tupelo walking on as well?

Looks like we're bringing in as many of these guys as possible and having an open competition -- which I'm strongly in favor of...

I always wondered what the hell happened to Brauchle. The guy was a f'n JUCO All-American and supposedly got beaten out by DePasquale. Makes a lot more sense now that Mullen tried to change his mechanics and f'd him up. Guys as good as Brauchle was supposed to be generally don't get beaten out by guys who struggle to kick it 40 yards out. Makes me even more pissed at Mullen for trying to pretend to be a ST coach for the last 4 years. He needs to stick to what he knows, which is the f'n offense, and move Sallach to an administrative role so he can go hire a real ST guru. That shit has cost us games every year so far and has to stop for us to take the next step. The fact we were literally the worst team in DI at kicking last season is completely inexcusable.

Has anybody reported a reason for his transfer?

Mich. State has a senior scholarship kicker and is planning on giving a scholarship to a HS senior for 2015. I guess he sees that he won't get playing time.

He probably googled "school with worst kickers" and found us. Glad he did.

Hutchins' uncle told me that Mullen overworked their legs in practice and about 3 or 4 weeks into the season they couldn't do much. If you go back and look at that first season there is a steep decline in averages at about that point.

He also said that they were all afraid to say anything to him about it.

I know little about coaching special teams, but I do know that specialists are not to lift weights or anything of the nature. The only workout they're suppose to do is inclined running, but our guys were squating and shit.

That's interesting...he had to have learned that from somewhere.

Let's just hope he's realized at this point that ST is not his specialty and just let someone else control it. That will help our ST and will also help our offense because he can essentially become more of an OC/QB coach and let Collins run the D. That's how a lot of HCs work now anyway.

Assigning a new special teams coach looks like it is paying dividends already.

Did Mullen think he HAD to coach special teams because Urban did it that way? I don't see why he insisted on being a special teams coach when its pretty obvious he knew little about what he was doing in that area.

I'm sure he was just around coaches who did it, so he figured it was a good idea for the HC to be ST coach as well.
