In each of the last 3 seasons we have finished strong over the last 9 games of the SEC season with a 6-3 record in each season. In each of those seasons, we entered those 9 games with a worse SEC record than we have today and seemed to have a tougher overall final 9 games on the schedule than we do this year.

Those 3 teams came within a few outs of winning a Super Regional in Florida, lost a Regional in Tallahassee, and finished as National runner up in Omaha. I'm pretty sure the fan base was at least somewhat disappointed in each of those seasons leading into those final 9 games.

I point this out b/c Cohen's teams have a history of finishing the season strong. Hopefully we will see more of the same as we wrap up 2014.

we had the easiest SEC conference schedule to this point than we could have even hoped for, that's why our SEC record is better .

Great win. I just stepped out of Clegg's office and saw we got the W.

Our OOC this year is more difficult than it was last year.

At minimum if we have any life left in us, we should finish 7-2. If we win tomorrow against Auburn, I say we sweep simply because their pitching on Sundays is aweful. We should sweep Tennessee as well. They are a shitty team too. If we can take the series at Alabama, that might just give us the big momentum push we need to go into the post season with confidence. We could really help ourselves over all with some sweeps.

Our catching scares me. We probably should win the series this weekend, and probably should sweep Tennessee. But our catchers are putting us in really bad situations. I don't know that we can do anything about it other than maybe try Cody Walker who hasn't proven to be a better option either.

I only ask this hypothetically, not predicting, not reading too much into tonight's results. What would it take at this point (post-Fri victory over AU) to host? 8-0, 7-1, 6-2 or no chance

Agreed. This is a massive weakness that we cannot hide. We just have to hope that it doesn't cost us another game this year or in the postseason, if we make it.

My opinion- probably 7-1 gets us on the wrong side of the bubble. It's conceivable that we could win out and not host. Then we have the SEC Tournament.

With this win, we probably only need 1 maybe 2 more wins to be pretty comfortable about getting in the playoffs. And we have Tennessee at home next weekend.

2 wins puts us at 14-16 in the SEC- and they're not going to trash us for going out and playing Arizona, Cal-Santa Barbara, USM, Western Carolina, and Ole Miss OOC.

You are probably right. We just need to finish business this weekend.

I would think getting to 18-12 gets us into the discussion, but it would depend on our final RPI. 20-10 should lock us into hosting. I can't remember a 19-11 SEC team ever not hosting since the expansion to 64, but I'm not 100% sure on that one. The SEC is projected to have 5 hosts, and I can't imagine us not being one of those 5 if we have 19 conference wins. Again, though, RPI would be a factor too.

Pretty sure that ship has sailed. I guess you could make the case for us if we win out, but that is obviously not going to happen. We just need to get in somewhere and hope for the best.

I also will depend on the other teams in the SEC and where we fall within the top 5. I can't imagine us winning 19 and not being in the top 5. At 18-12, it might get a little dicey.

The best way to handle it is to focus on one game at a time. That's cliche'- but it makes daunting tasks more manageable.

These guys need to use the 2011 Cardinals as their inspiration. 10.5 games behind the Braves in the wild card standings on August 24th with a 1.3% chance of making the playoffs and became World Series champions. We'll need a "Happy Bus" instead of "Happy Flight" and some kind of critter to substitute for the rally squirrel.

Just don't let Scott come up with the critter or try to promote a slogan because it will no doubt be lame and hated by our fan base.

The Happy Flight slogan was nice, and the squirrel thing took a life of it's own much like the beards last year for us, but I think when you get down to it, the way they did it was by taking it one game at a time. When you look at the big picture and you see that you are 10.5 games back, I think it just puts that much more pressure on the team. If we keep winning games, we will be OK. It's really as simple as that.
