Tyler Russell, QB, Mississippi State
Russell (6-foot-4 3/8, 227 pounds) had surgery to repair a torn labrum in his throwing shoulder and did not run or work out at his pro day. He has good athletic ability and is a candidate to change positions in the pros. I think he's worth a try at tight end.

His only other shot is at kicker.

Not no, but HELL NO. Remember, Russell is the QB that runs like a wounded giraffe. Relf could play TE

I think he has a better chance at QB in a pro set offense with good running backs.

Just want to point out that TR is not a bad runner of the football. Not on Dak's level as a runner, but he doesn't just do down on the first hit either. I've never thought of him at NFL TE. I doubt he has the blocking skills for the position, but maybe he'll surprise us. I still think he makes a roster as a QB.

He wasn't a coward as a runner, but he certainly wasn't good at it. There is no way on earth he can play NFL TE. It's so laughable that it almost has to be a joke.

The few times Russell took off an ran for some yardage, was in my opinion when it was becoming obvious that Dak was about to take his job. Before then, he was fine with taking 10 yard sacks and trotting back to sidelines and going 3 and out without showing much urgency.

That's messed up, saying "he was fine with taking sacks" and "going 3 and out." If you don't like the way he plays the position, that's fine, but no competitor is ever "fine with" losing the play. You're basically saying that any sign that he cared about the game and his team was for show only.

Bullshit.

Pretty sure he meant that TR was showing more urgency with Dak breathing down his neck, and took off to run more than he had previously.

I'm no expert, and I'm not saying TR could ever be a TE, but not being a good runner is not exactly an obstacle. You just need somebody who can block in conjunction with the o-line, run routes and catch the ball. While Tyler is likely no threat to get a lot of YAC, I don't think there's any evidence he's incapable of running routes.

The way he says it is what I address, and he says it in a way that indicates he doesn't think much of TR. He ends the post by saying Tyler didn't have "much urgency" when he played for State until Dak competed for the position. I vehemently disagree.

I think alot of TR as a person, a representative of the university, and wish him well in all things he does. As a QB, no I was never really wowed. He has good size, he has a big arm, and I think behind a good Oline and some solid receivers he could do well.

He will never play TE in the NFL. I don't get where all these people just think they can plug in anybody at TE. Yes, Gates and Graham just kind of picked up the position and have thrived with it. They were also very good basketball players, not pocket passing quarterbacks. I might could see an argument for Tebow at TE, Russell absolutely not.

It is definitely a head scratcher to think of him at NFL TE. State fans have seldom loved their quarterbacks. Dak has that turned around right now. We'll see next season whether he keeps it that way. We love him so far. We love him like we love winning. Hope we never hate him like we hate losing.

What's amazing is that people get paid to write this shit. They are paid by those who advertise "we have solid info."

This is easily the dumbest thing I've heard all day. Dan Mullen has as much chance as Tyler Russell to be an NFL TE.

Easy hedge bet, TR gets signed to a team to be a TE. (must make at least practice squad as TE) 1:1,000,000. Who would take it?

Its 100 times more likely that Brandt has never seen Tyler play than Tyler even getting a tryout as a TE.
