he is now 6-40 in the last 4 SEC series for a whopping .150

Britton is 5-16 in the last 2 series- .313

Wonder if detz and rea platoon now according to lefty/righty pitcher.

Yep I was the first to say few weeks back before Detz had 100 AB to let him try and hit his way out of it. Well he hasn't..
And Yeah I agree maybe the righty/lefty with Rea is the way to go...
Its not even a debate now with Britton. if he can even hit a little there is no way he doesn't play 3rd.
Big league 3rd baseman in the field..

Why didn't you use the last 4 series for Britton? He was 0-10 against LSU and Ark.

ok. 5-26 is still better than 6-40
And on the defense side of the ball Britton might be the best in the SEC...

or we could just use the last 2 series for Detz where he is 3-23

Between the way we treat Detz vs. the way we treat Armstrong, I'm convinced that what you accomplished last season as a player carries MUCH more weight that what you've accomplished the first 35 games of THIS season. We did finally give Rea some bench time but that took quite a while in itself. At this point I would be fine with even inserting Humphreys at 1st base if he continues to hit. I guess platooning Detz/Rea at 1st is an option as well as giving Garner a shot as well. I don't see how you can continue to just DH a guy though batting as poorly as Detz has this year.

Detz hit a lot of balls hard this weekend.

Perfect example of how some posters use nothing but stats to form their opinions. The lack of knowledge is mind-boggling sometimes. I'm not saying that anybody should and or shouldn't play, I'd just like to see posters have their facts in line. Coach34 has been making this 'stat' mistake for years and he will continue to use it when it suits his agenda.

What mistake am I making? I've been saying for weeks now Detz needed to be replaced. Please show me something that explains why we should keep Detz in the line-up? We're 2/3 they the season and he is batting .215

at what point is enough?

I mean holy shit- I pointed out how he was struggling last week and needed to go. So what does he do? Responds by going 0-12

Sometimes facts just pinch you in the face. This is one of those times

He may need to sit. I'm still on the fence. But he's making good contact, but the balls aren't falling. I'm simply pointing out that the numbers don't tell the whole story. It was especially fitting because you typically use certain 'sets' of stats to help you make your points. You've done it for years with Stans. All I'm saying, ALL I'm saying.....is that stats do not lie, but they don't tell the whole truth.

The intangible part of the game is just as important as the numbers, especially in college baseball. In addition to numbers, I also go by what I see out there on the field.

I agreed with this a few weeks back. I said let him get 100 AB's and try to work his way out of his slump. that was like 5 weeks ago. He has actually gotten worse .Im not saying we shouldn't play him anymore, but not every game and for sure not in the 2 hole anymore. DH him some against RH pitchers, let him and Rea pluton at 1B, but get him out of the 2 hole and there is no way he should be back at 3B..

Likelihood of Detz being benched this weekend is probably low. I could see him sitting tomorrow in favor of one of the freshmen and then hitting 7th or 8th this weekend. It's pretty amazing that Detz hasn't dropped in the order at all.

I'd be OK with this.

Somebody put up some stats on sixpack and it showed Detz is 5th on the team in OBP in SEC play. He was also 1st in RBIs in SEC play. Not sure if that is accurate but last year Detz was very good in getting on base. He seems to put the ball in play but I still wonder if we should just put Humphries at first. If Britton can just get to decent (he has hit better lately) that would help because he is fantastic in the field and he can run.

you can spin it different ways and try to come up with this or that- but the bottom line is that Detz has had 6 hits in his last 11 SEC ballgames. That's not good enough for an average defender. I rather Humphreys bat and get experience

I agree. I don't think Detz brings any more than Humphries does right now but Reid will be here next year.

I didn't use rbi dipshit, I only posted the stats Tbone mentioned.

FYI, during that 6-40 stretch of 11 games, detz has also had an OBP of .323, Scored 7 runs, Had 8 RBI's (of the 44) , and 11 K's

It's not great but he is still getting on base and driving in runs. Just not getting base hits.
