White is supposedly the 3rd or 4th guy they have targeted. Just goes to show you that in today's CBB world, if the cupboard looks bare, it's hard to make a good hire.

If Louisiana Tech's basketball coach turns down Tennessee, I give up. This search = total mess. Have they reached out to Tyndall yet? I would assume he would be next if they already haven't contacted him

Looks like White will be named the next head coach at Tennessee and all you guys thinking that he will end up at Ole Miss were wrong. I don't think he will ever coach at Ole Miss now that he is at Tennessee.

Andy Kennedy breathes a sigh of relief...

Why would they try to hire another coach from La Tech? How'd that work out for them last time?

Annddd the Rebs' former HCIW is the new Tennessee basketball coach. Underwhelming hire for them on paper -- but I think White is a good coach...

I think he's a better coach than Martin. That's just my opinion until White has coached ~3 years at UT, but I think White's ceiling is much much higher.

So Michael White turned Tennessee down. What an idiot. He could have made some real money. I guess he could be holding out for the Mizzou job which is better then Tennessee. Both the Tennessee and Mizzou jobs are better then Ole Miss and La Tech. If he is holding out for the Ole Miss job, he will not do well there. Andy Kennedy is their ceiling in basketball. No history, facilities suck, fan support sucks at Ole Miss. I am surprised Kennedy hasn't left for a "lesser" job.

Michael White is ten times the coach Andy Kennedy is. I'm not claiming Ole Miss would become a ten times better program, but I will take my chances as an MSU fan with any coach we ever have against Kennedy as long as they will have him.

Good hire for Tennessee. Does this make USM the landing zone for Stansbury?

Tennessee got turned down 4-5 times....that should put our search in perspective for Strick ...I'm not saying he did a good job, but I am saying there was an extreme level of difficulty

Stands to Southern might be a good fit. Good landing spot for him

they've had constant trouble with football and basketball coaches and money seems to be a bit more of an issue for them than it ever has before. Also, and I don't know if this is playing a part or not, but I have to wonder if some racial tensions found their way into the booster & coach relationship. If so, that could really leave a terrible scar there.

Hahahaha yea Ray won't be recruiting near the talent Stansbury will be. I don't care if Stansbury is at Delaware Tech he'd still out recruit Brick Ray.

I predict we still miss out on even the NIT and Rick Ray is released. I certainly hope we are much improved but I just don't see where it's gonna come from.

I expected more out of Lewis and Steele- no doubt. With the program being place now for two years- I just can't see anybody smoking their way out or being a ***** at this point

I certainly hope we are much improved but I just don't see where it's gonna come from.

1. Much increased post depth. Last year we had one legit post player. This year we have four (Ware, Daniels, Ndoye, Black); five if Zuppardo puts in the time in the weight room. I don't think some of you realize just how much this is going to improve all aspects of our defense.

2. Last year we had three halfway legit three point shooters. Out of those, IJ was hurt on and off the whole season, FTF was bad for most of the year, and Borchert was inconsistent. This year we lose Borchert but add three more (Daniels, Dunlap, Zuppardo), and if FTF picks up where he left off last season, he'll finally be the three point specialist we thought we were getting when he arrived in 2012. And with more shooting threats to space the floor, Chicken can go off even harder.

I agree it's not a foregone conclusion that we'll make the jump back to 20 wins, but anyone who doesn't see we finally have the roster to be a legit team again either isn't trying or doesn't want to.

I agree with your point. At the end of the day, Tennessee got a coach with experience assistant coaching in the SEC, experience assistant coaching in the state of Tennessee, and two head coaching jobs where he had some success. I'm not saying Tyndall will do anything at Tenn, but Strick messed up the hire by getting a guy with no knowledge of Mississippi and probably little to no knowledge of the SEC. Not dishing on Ray, it wasn't his fault Strick had no common sense and hired him.

we have two, maybe 3, SEC basketball players. One may be hurt. One can't shoot consistently. One can't play 36-40 minutes every single night.

Still rolling with this redundancy, I see...

Stans to USM is a perfect fit for him ---- plus, it gives the FIVVVVEEEEE STAR in Scooba somewhere to land**

Roq Johnson
Ware
FTF
Chicken
IJ if he can stay healthy
Daniels
Houston

I'd say we will have at least 7 SEC type players this winter

tcdog70
04-22-2014, 09:39 AM
To be a SEC quality Player you should be able to play both sides of the ball. Ready can't defend. He is a smurf. Roq is a sub. Ware is an average SEC player and Chicken and FTF are SEC players. But how about let's wait and see Daniels and Houston before we anoint them. I'm dubious of a player that takes 4 years to pass JUCO algebra. But I'm going to go back to square one and hope that you are right and I am wrong. I want to jump on the Rick ray bandwagon. I have watched a lot of MSU basketball and have a hard time getting warm and fuzzy over Ray. I am glad Ray finally got Ware some help, but he has failed to bring in a 6'3" or better PG that can distribute, shoot a little and defend. And I think Houston might be Ray's best recruit so far.
