Coach Cohen stated yesterday that if you wanted to see what was going to change you should come to today's practice. Does anyone have any details of what happened at practice today?

They moved practice inside, which means that closed it. However, the word is that all players are clean shaven today.

Thanks, I wasn't thinking about the weather screwing practice up. I'm sure Cohen got his point across.

Indoor practices are great days for attitude adjustments....don't turn on the fans, just get your point across quite effectively. I wouldn't be surprised to see a major lineup change tomorrow night again Alcorn State.

Yeah, I'm real eager to see the lineup tomorrow and this weekend.

if I am coaching it would look like this...

1)Armstrong- LF
2)Pirtle- 2b
3) Henderson-RF
4)Collins- C
5) C.T.- CF
6) Heck- SS
7) Detz- 1st
8) Humphries- DH
9) Britton- 3rd

* If you just refuse to take Rea out then put him at 7th at 1B and Move Detz to DH. Just think right now we are a better team without Rea.

I seen it dawg

If I'm coaching it looks like this...

Armstrong-CF
Heck - SS
Pirtle - 2B
Collins - C
Henderson - RF
Humphries - DH
Cody Brown - LF
Garner - 1B
Britton - 3B

Blow the sonofabitch up completely. Shave the beards and shave the shit leadership. Run the kids out there.

I would not complain one bit about that lineup... I was pleasantly surprised with Detz this weekend though. Probably his best series of the year.

I agree that Britton is our best defensive option at 3rd but if he plays we may as well DH for him and see if the pitcher can hit. Hell, even Justin Verlander got two hits Saturday.

I have a feeling that whatever lineup Cohen uses people will be "disappointed".

1. Armstrong LF
2. Demarcus RF
3. Pirtle 2B
4. Collins C
5. Humphreys 3B
6. CT CF
7. Heck SS
8. Rooker 1B (If we can burn his RS)
9. Cody Brown DH

That's what I would do assuming I can burn Rooker's RS. I'm pissed at Rea, Detz, and Garner. That's my reasoning for burning Rooker's redshirt.

I wouldn't be shocked at all if Brandon Woodruff, Holder, and Lindgren are better hitters than Britton.

17 Detz and his long swing. He and Rea were lucky Saturday in the 10th inning.

I agree. Detz got the ball through the infield some this weekend but I don't remember him ever really driving the ball.
In fact, I'm not sure most of our guys this weekend could hit a ball to the wall even if Ole Miss took their outfielders out of the game.

Another interesting point: Cohen skipped the call in show tonight. Sent Butch to do it.

Detz doesn't tend to stay in slumps and did us a lot of good at the plate at crucial times last year. He should play, end of story. We need to do something with Rea and his batting. I know he can do a lot better.

Last year is over. He's hitting .220 on the year and is second on the team with 20 K's. Playing people because of what they did last year while they currently aren't performing is why we are having problems right now.

I started to post this earlier in the year but didn't, for fear of a public hanging , but Rea's give a shit factor looked to be about 0 from go this year. I don't know if it was cockiness or what but there was definitely something different to me in his body language and effort in the field all year. Your thoughts?

Britton was 2/5 this weekend- .400
Detz went 3/11- .273

Yet we are calling this one of Detz best weekends??? Bottom line in the last 10 games, Detz is 6/36- .167....thats 3 SEC series and a midweek game...but we need Detz's bat more than Britton D's? Really? Reallyyyyyyyy?

I am to the point of burn some redshirts or something. Put Reid at 3rd and try Garner at first. DH somebody who can smash the ball. Our give a shit level is pretty low it seems. Pirtle, Collins, Heck, and Armstrong are the only people I would say is actually competing for their job. Hendo does a good job also in the outfield but he isn't hitting that well either.

I am glad Cohen gets paid to do this and not me. I would have some blue hairs all in a tizzy over the words coming out of the dugout.

I don't understand why Detz has gotten a free pass in so many of the discussions I've seen in the last few weeks. People give Vickerson and Rea all the grief and then do whatever it takes, defensively, to get Detz 2nd in their lineup. Yeah, Vickerson and Rea have dropped off after being above .300, but Detz has been right around .220 the whole season and is a defensive liability.

I agree. He's never been the most agile guy, but at the end of last season he was diving for balls and playing good defense. This year the only ball he's dived for was one he made an error on and was trying to recover it. Even just trying to 'pick' errant throws - he does it nonchalantly.

Detz - avg/slg/obp in conference is .283/.377/.387. Detz, Collins, Pirtle and Armstrong have been our best hitters in SEC play and should all be in the lineup.

Detz is 6/32 the last 3 SEC series. That's under .200 and is not good enough to stay in the line-up

The thing hurting Detz the most this season is that there is no Hunter Renfroe behind him for protection.

Not correct. He was 2 for 7 vs UPIG. Didnt play in Game 1
1 for 10 vs LSU
3 for 11 vs The Bears

6 for 28 .214

Either way -- Detz at 3rd goes against Cohen's "defense first" philosophy -- and it isn't worth it when he isn't hitting .350 or so...

Let Humphreys take his lumps over there. I don't know why people are against this? I've seen him be overmatched at the plate some -- but I've also seen him be damn close to giving us a power threat we don't currently have. Let him take his lumps and let's roll. He will figure it out pretty quickly -- just like Collins has at the plate.

they need to fix game by game then. He didn't play 1 game against UPig according to box scores.

Ok- Detz is batting .214 his last 3 SEC series- with an 0-4 vs Southern Miss mixed in

Right. He saw a lot of good fastballs being sandwiched between Frazier and Renfroe.

Yea, but I thought he biggest asset last year was OBP because he had a very good eye and took an ton of walks. Not sure why you would get more walks hitting in front of Renfroe than you would hitting in front of who he does this year (normally Rea)?

Yep, and Humphreys and Collins will both be major parts of our offense next year. Assuming Rea can figure it out but stays, a Humphreys/Collins/Rea middle of the order isn't bad at all.

Exactly. At least with Hump, we have the chance of him running into one.

He can hit righties -- no doubt in my mind -- we just aren't giving him enough ABs to settle in...
