I don't think you're stretching it. Palmer described Dak as the closest thing to Tebow in CFF and he's right.

I'll never forget the time CFL did a 50 state tour and when they got to Mississippi, when the topic of "greatest coach in state history" came up, he argued Croom. This was after he was fired too.

He did say the 1999 MSU team was the greatest football team in Mississippi history, so he's not completely mentally challenged, but of the 32 MSU head coaches... If he's not #32, he's close.
