View Full Version : Recruiting - Peters, Dear, Spivey

As you know, Peters visited State this weekend instead of going to OM's spring game. That is big news.

He posted a picture of himself in a State jersey and Spivey commented on it and said "I'm waiting on you". Someone asked when they are going to commit and Spivey commented "Whenever Jamall commits."

Would be huge to get there commitment Saturday. Also, Yancy said it wouldn't surprised him to see Dear commit to State this weekend.

Thank GOD!!! after this weekend I didn't think there was enough alcohol to "help me hang on"

thank you for a glimmer of something positive. **** baseball for now because we are ****ed in that sport.

maybe we can beat southern miss this year in football.

I'm not sure why the recruiting people think those guys are going to commit any minute now.

I expect all three to be January decisions.

I'm glad I have reached the point in my life where I don't follow recruiting until January.

Even January is too early. The day after the first Wednesday in February is as early as you need to start.

I just hope that we pass on Dear like Coach34 wants. I just don't think he 'fits' our program.

My reasons are in here, I think you can figure out why.

NSFW

Lets just say he is paying homage to R. Kelly.

What is behind that link? Nothing loads for me either. What off the field issues are we talking about? Dear is a must have in this class in my opinion, but I have no inside knowledge. This is the first I have heard of any off the field issues.

Big Dawg camp is when some things may go down. This is going to be a war in recruiting this year, but if a couple of these guys were to commit this summer along with Fletcher Adams (which is a when not an if) would be huge for us the sooner the better . Even if they "flip" that early commit is big.. Our track record on getting the "hat" isn't very good on NSD with uncommitted guys. And These kids don't seem to be like the ones from a few years back (CJ, Snoop, Tobias, Whitehead). They seem to be more about football than all the other nonsense..
I think Leo and Patterson will be closer too if not on NSD.. Even tho its just April that was HUGE that Jamal was here and not at OM or even LSU for their spring games...

I'd take Dear in a heartbeat. Is he a choir boy no but he also not a thug/head case either. Dear makes good grades, his teachers love him, & he's a respectable yes sir, no sir type of kid. Now he does need to invest in a lifestyle subscription of condoms but that's his biggest fault. He need to get out of Jackson & surround himself with good people & that's why him being at MSU would be great for both parties. He's not a half asser on or off the field & honestly that's half the battle.

Make that Fletcher and it's a pretty good post. Nelson is in class somewhere in Starkville right now

Nothing loaded for me either, but I've come across his twitter before. He had some retweets that's he should probably un-retweet but I don't recall anything out of the ordinary for a high school kid. I remember looking at gross-out porn pictures during study hall, myself.

I think taking down a video of a guy pissing on a girl's face would be a step in the right direction, Im going to give him the benefit of the doubt and assume it isn't his. I guess respecting women may not be high on his agenda.

Like I said, just not a guy I want on our roster.

This is what I was thinking. It's a high school male.

Arguably, he should know better than to post (the porn vid was actually just a retweet where he's asking WTF) it in public, but these kids grew up with the internet in their pocket and look at it differently than we do.

He's just asking the person who tweeted it WTF. Probably doesn't even realize that it shows on his 'media' page because he replied to it.

That is encouraging - will someone that has twitter and tweets at these kids tell him to take it down - it makes him look horrible. I could care less about the video with the girl with the great ass, bu I certainly didn't think retweeting a video or picture uploaded that to your media page on twitter - good to know.

From what I have heard about Dear, I think he is one of those players that is at a point where he can choose which path he wants to go down in life- whether that is the right path vs. the wrong path.

I think if he comes to us with the discipline that Dan provides in our program along with the player development that he will recceive, I think he has a very good chance of headed down the right path if he comes to MSU.

Our coaches have a pretty good track record of bringing the right guys into the program, and I think we should trust them here. Him playing alongside Dak for a year will ensure that he likely starts on the right path.

I think it is best that if our coaches want a recruit, then we try to do what is best to get them. If things don't work out, the coaches can handle it.

There's an interview on the Scout site that Steve did with Peters, and suffice it to say he is very, very high on State right now. Based on that interview, it wouldn't surprise me at all if he committed before or during his season. We're definitely in the lead there, and that's huge because it seems like he could be a leader to get some of the other guys sort of riding the fence to jump in the boat.

Have no clue what his character is like, but when you do a good job overall as far as bringing in good character guys and creating a good environment, you can afford to take a flyer on the highly talented character risks. Both Nick James and Quay Evans had questions coming in and while Quay never got it together, I don't think it negatively impacted the rest of the team. No clue if Dear belongs in that same boat, just a general point.

You might want to actually read the tweet. He is saying it is nasty. It is probably best not to even be associated with this sort of thing but he is not agreeing with it and is only commenting to express his displeasure with the highly sexualized nature of social media culture. But by all means twist it into a way to downgrade the guy.

If the chick is willing to let someone urinate on her, that says more about her than it does anybody else I think. Plus, it seems like he is expressing his displeasure with the pic more than applauding it.
