I just heard the most ridiculous stat about Jeter. In his career he's played in 2,603 games. Only ONE of those games was he/Yankees eliminated from postseason play. That's absurd.

There's no way that's true. They finished 6 games out of the WC in 08 and 6.5 games out last year.

ETA: Nvm, he was hurt last year and probably was in 08, too. That definitely is a crazy stat.

If true that makes me think one of two things:

1. When jeter is hurt the Yankees fall off badly.

2. When the Yankees are obviously going nowhere, jeter packs it in

Haha the hidden truth in this stat is that he has been on the roster for more than one game that they were already eliminated in but when he plays the Yankees haven't been eliminated for 2,602 of the 2,603 games. Until recently Jeter hasn't gotten injured often. Still a ridiculous stat.

That is a pretty incredible stat. I wonder what it would be for Chipper Jones. Or Bobby Cox during his second tenure with the Braves (1990-2010). Even though they didn't make the postseason, I don't think they were eliminated from it until late in the year in 2007 and 2009, plus all the years of getting to the playoffs. It's got to be something like 97-98% of games.
