Personally, I think, overall, this is great and makes the state of MS look a little better, but the timing of it makes it look completely shallow and only for recruiting purposes.

These guys attempt to be chameleons for their own personal gain in recruiting. In the name of recruiting players, if they need to be Christians, they will be holy rollers, if they need to throw big partys, then they throw the biggest party, and, now, if they need to tolerant, well by golly, they just name things after people just to show recruits how tolerant they are.

The problem is that none of this reflects who they really are. Because they spend so much time trying to conform to the needed and necessary stereotype to land a recruit, they don't actually stand for anything or have an identity.

Ole Miss, who the hell are you?

Christian, party town, tolerant people who have race riots?

Do you even know who you are, or are you trying so hard to impress others that you have no real identity of your own?

Right now, you look like the person that buys a slightly nicer car than your neighbor, or puts up just a few more Christmas lights than him just to make sure you aren't out done. Problem is, you have no reason for doing these things except to present some false representation on your front porch to impress the people who pass by. Your neighbor looks at you like your an idiot because he could give two shits about who has more Christmas lights or a nicer car.

Winning is about having an identity and recruiting students and athletes that believe in that vision.

You have none.

Yeah, it's a nice thing, but the timing of it definitely stinks of desperation.

Great post. "Lack of identity" sums up the problem with that place perfectly.

MSU: first black player becomes Mr. MSU his senior year.

UM: name half a building after first black player(s) 40 years later following a string of arrests and ungodly acts.
