After a 19-1 start that had certain people on this board going crazy with softball fever, the softball Dawgs have shown their true colors and sit in LAST PLACE in the SEC after a 1-5 start. The 21-8 softball Dawgs have gone 2-7 since they started playing teams with a pulse.

This past weekend, they were raped in a three game series with Georgia. 9-1, 11-2 and 1-0 in the three losses after starting spring break with a loss to Kennesaw State and a win over Georgia State. The Title IXers will take on Memphis in the midweek before taking on highly ranked Auburn (24-4) on the Plains. No worries though, the schedule allows for a break as next week they start a six game non-conference home streak against Southeastern Louisiana, Samford, Mississsippi Valley and Marshall. A 6-18 finish in SEC play is very likely.

I enjoy watching softball. It's a fun sport to watch especially here at MSU with Vann leading the way. Georgia is a very good team. They are ranked #15 for a reason. MSU may not be ranked but we are still a good team. The SEC is one of the powerhouse conferences for softball. So before you start saying that we are a horrible team, remember that the SEC is very highly-regarded around the nation and has many national championship winners.

They are horrible. Last place with one winnable series left on the schedule, and that could go either way.

The SEC has won ONE national championship in softball, EVER. That doesn't qualify as "many."

My point is when you guys were going crazy over the start, I did a little bit of research and figured out that we had not played anyone to put up the impressive start. Now that we are playing good SEC teams, we are getting straight up killed. 9-1 in softball is like 56-3 in football.

This weekend was definitely a reality check for softball. We at least played with KY and actually won a game the week before but to go to GA (lower ranked than KY) and only score 2 runs and get run-ruled in 2 different games was way beyond being a little disappointing.

True...I guess it just seems like the SEC is dominant in softball. The PAC-12 is definitely the leading conference in softball with 23 National Championships. 23/34. That's pretty much taking over and making the rest of the country like it. However, we have been to the second most WCWS and the second most appearances in the National Championship Series.

Softball is a sport that relies so much on pitching that if you have a dominant pitcher you can go a long way . Usm went to the softball world series a few years ago with a pitcher who was pretty much unhittable. The softball team is like the baseball team, it's offensively challenged. Think the pitching is better than this weekend.

This shows you just how difficult it is for State to compete in the SEC, even in the minor sports because of the incredible money and resources the other schools have and trying to recruit to starkville.

I think Steudaman is doing a good job ,but she'll go to Alabama in a second if that job comes open again. Doesn't help when the athletic director promises a new stadium and delays it for years because of no money.

I'm assuming curmudgeon got his ass kicked by a softball chick or something.

I hope they do well, but again, my point is the crowing that some of you were making was enough for me to do a little research and realize we had been playing a bunch of nobodies to build up an impressive resume.

A 19-1 team that had not given up more than one run in a single game and plays in a power conference should be ranked, right? Now that reality has set in and we are again a lower tier team, there aren't four posts a week about it, so I will continue to update the board on their progress weekly.

I have no problem with women's sports, I just think they should be self sustaining. Title IX is socialistic. You know how much it takes to operate a softball team with 35 players, coaches, trainers and such playing 30 road games a season? That money could be better spent on linebackers, point guards and shortstops. Let the girls do what they used to do. Meet up at a central location a couple weekends and play a round robin. If we spend $5 MM on a softball stadium with Dudy Noble in shambles we need to be kicked out of the SEC.

So are highways and public schools. I don't drive in Idaho and have no kids in school. Why should I have to pay for either.
