exactly why he needs to be hitting in the clean up spot or 5th.

Rea needs to be more aggressive.

BTW, look at the UGA 1B- his foot comes off the bag before he catches the ball every time.

MarketingBully01
03-15-2014, 11:12 AM
Yes and that is all he freaking has. One pitch no movement should be like BP.

preachermatt83
03-15-2014, 11:13 AM
what was wrong with those first 2 pitches?

Bucky Dog
03-15-2014, 11:13 AM
My issue still is all of the different lineups Cohen is throwing around. You have to set a pretty solid lineup and go with it to allow for the players to develop some chemistry and consistency. When you keep rotating guys in and out it creates pressure like they are fighting for a job each time out. I know technically each person is fighting for their job but if the coach sticks with you and shows confidence in the lineup he has then it really helps build momentum.

preachermatt83

Sac bunting early is frigging stupid. For the amount it helps you get one run, it takes you out of a big inning. There is literally no point to it. 2 on no outs -- and we take ourselves right out of an inning again.

I'd love for someone to ask about their thought process on that -- based on the sabermetric realities of college ball...

1st and 2nd no outs - avg 1.79 runs and score at least 1 71% of the time

I hope cohen leaves Ross as our Saturday starter. And hope he uses preston as either Fri or sunday and fitts the other.

preachermatt83
03-15-2014, 12:33 PM
and I think gentry can step up and take ross's long relief spot after fitts.

preachermatt83

I just think he may be more comfortable at 3rd. He looked bad at SS as a freshman as well. Was he tight then too? Maybe he's just always tight when playing that position.

Britton playing 3rd and batting .260 this year would make us a much better team. He will lock down 3rd defensively

Cohen seems to teach against it.

That actually seems to be a popular movement around baseball altogether. I don't know the reasons sabermetrically and haven't cared enough to research it, but have noticed the approach throughout MLB organizations in particular...

preachermatt83
03-15-2014, 01:12 PM
unless something changes quick we are gonna have a ton left in the pen for game 3. Fitts will be on a VERY VERY short leash. You got Lingo, Cox, Gentry, and Holder.. there is no way we should lose final game. Now if I had to pull Mitchell here I'd go to Hudson. It would have to look like he is throwing 105 mph following Mitchell.

K's are not as hurtful if you can jump the yard consistently. They are much much more hurtful when you are a singles only hitter.

Defense is much better in the pro's too which makes putting the ball in play at the college and HS levels more valuable

preachermatt83
03-15-2014, 01:33 PM
I just really believe Ross is something special. He reminds me so much of Tom Glavine . I think he could be every bit as dominate for us as Nola and Beede are for Vandy and LSU

This.

You can K a lot in pro baseball and still be a good hitter. It's a lot harder to do that in college- where putting the ball in play is at a premium.

I agree with all that...
But it seems pretty clear that Cohen isn't going to start teaching a 2 strike approach for us at this point. He never has. And I'd argue that 4 of the 5 teams have been pretty good offensive clubs, with this one too early to tell...
