W Carolina is a very solid club- they had an RPI of 55 and dominated the Southern Conference last year. They bring back a lot of offense too.

ETA: That being said though, they relied on the long ball A LOT last year. Keep the ball down, and DNF + cool weather will neutralize that part of their offense real quick.

Much stiffer test than Hofstra. Western Carolina has played in several starkville regionals over the years. Don't remember which.

Lost to Tennessee last year 10 - 5. Beat Georgia 12 - 7.

Playing a team who would be a 4 seed in the tourney. Good opening weekend test. More pumped about the 630 first pitch. I can actually make the game from Jackson now.

Nicely done on short notice by our coaching staff. And we probably helped our RPI. Western Carolina is a solid mid major program and as others have said is going to be a stiff test for us this weekend.

Agreed. It should be an interesting weekend because these guys are more than capable of coming in here and winning. I hope our boys are ready to go. It's time to get serious right away.

great job by the Ath Dept to get this scheduled so quickly. Kudos to Scott and the gang.

We definitely helped our SOS with the swap, but WCU really helped itself out by swapping out Ohio for us. Someone suggested they cancelled on purpose saying they couldn't get their field cleared. That's a stretch but at least feasible.

This team led the NCAA in HR last year. Kendall Rogers tweeted it should be a good series. I expect at least one good game as they supposedly have a legit ace and an ace closer. Hopefully we're up for the early season test.

Don't know much about them, but was expecting/hoping for opening weekend sweep when Hofstra was the opponent. Can we expect the same?

It will definitely be tougher with this team. WCU is returning I believe 6 upperclassmen that will be on the field along with a stud reliever and ace. This won't be an easy series to say the least.

Western Carolina just seems like your typical, good mid-major team- good offense with power (although DNF and our staff will neutralize that to an extent) and quality frontline pitching, but not much depth. They're sort of like Mercer.

We SHOULD win this series fairly easily, but don't be surprised if they take a game from us when they pitch they're ace. They better be prepared to score runs without hitting all those home runs, because swinging for the fences against us in our park doesn't work.

Did we end up moving up our fences? And if so, how much?

I agree with all of this. I'm reminded somewhat of the Samford team from 2 years ago that hit all those HRs.
