Got some info from a friend at the scrimmage today. He said Hudson and Sexton have been showing out.
Hudson- 4 IP, 0 R, 5 H, 1BB, 2 K. Throwing gas as usual (per Gene, consistently mid 90s, topping out at 96).
Sexton- 5 IP, 0 R, 2 H, 0 BB, 3 K. He's been his usual low 90s with a great changeup and a lot of pitchability.
I actually like Hudson getting in a little trouble and having to work out of the stretch- that has been one of his biggest question marks. He came through with runners on base today and didn't allow a run. That's a good sign.
These two guys have the potential to be horses over the next couple of years- they should both be weekend starters at least by next year. I have a feeling that people won't be questioning our starters in the future.
Also, Jake Vickerson is looking pretty damn good too.

the 3/4 slot like he did at the end of the year last year?

The starting pitching that we are amassing from top to bottom is one of the biggest differences that I have seen compared to both Polk eras and McMahon's time as well.

I haven't seen him, but last I heard he was going to do that lower arm slot as well as throw from an overhand 3/4 slot. Like Caleb Reed did.

He's going to drop down some, and then pitch from his normal arm slot other times.
I think you'll see him drop down mostly against right handers- and pitch conventionally against left handers. Think Caleb Reed.

Anyone heard anymore on the status of Paul Young? Is he pitching at all?

Young pitched a couple weeks ago,but I haven't seen his name listed in awhile. Heard rumor he was having problems again. But those up there could tell you more.

Young did pitch a week or so ago, but hasn't thrown at any of the scrimmages since.
Rumors of more problems wouldn't be a shock to me, but I'd be disappointed to hear that. I don't have any inside info on it though. Hopefully we can at least have Young available out of the bullpen this year- another power arm like that would be a big plus.

Msu baseball posted a video interview with Butch Thompson and he said Paul Young threw today..bullpen. Didn't sound real encouraging.

If Young is hurt, we should go ahead and redshirt him like we did when Bracewell was hurt. You miss a month of college baseball, and that's about half the season.

My guess is they will pitch Young very little at the start of season then towards the end let him go after it. He just needs conditioning and strength.

I believe he is a guy that we will have for only 2 years regardless. They may be saying, he's a draft guy after his junior year so lets go ahead and get him from March through the end of the season.
